Installing piaa lights

Finally installing Piaa 510 lights in my SW bumper. When I removed my factory bumper I unplugged the fog lights and left the wiring harness for them. I wish to use the factory ome setup.

Can I hook up the +/- switch wire for the piaa's to the ends I have already?
Pros and cons please from others that may have done this.
It would be easier than tapping into the factory switch wires due to I have my ome switch on the turn signal arm.

Yes, shouldn't cause a problem the OEM lights are 55W I believe and the PIAAs should be about the same unless you got the 85W version. I still wouldn't be concerned if so, but if you are you could just use those wires to trigger a relay.

That's what the intentions are for, just to send a signal to the relay to turn the lights on.

Yeah that should work. You could probably get away with just connecting the lights directly to your existing wiring and not even use the PIAA stuff if you wanted to simplify things.

The PIAA box is nothing but a relay, fuse holder, and 20A fuse in a fancy case.

Wired mine directly into the factory wiring without the Piaa wirings harness. Just had to chop off the factory plug and used water tight male/female disconnects for ease in removal should the need arise. IMO the Piaas were pretty disappointing compared to the stock bumper fogs.

So I did the same thing as you but i have the 85w version and i'm blowing the 15 amp fuse as soon as i turn them on. the piaa wiring has a 20 amp fuse. i have a 20 amp fuse that will fit in the fuse box but i'm worried about it melting the oem wires. Should it be a problem?

I presume he was using 55w piaa. They wire our system with certain gauge wires for powering things and appropriate amp fuses. I wouldn't take a chance on going higher on the fuse.

Yes to above: Don't use a larger fuse in the factory circuit. It was designed for 15 amps.
at 170 watt total you're pretty close to 15 amps & the draw may be too high causing it to blow.
As long as you're confident in your wiring (no shorts anywhere) I'd simply use the factory wiring to trigger a relay so you could still use the factory switch to control them.
If you're not confident there are no shorts, disconnect one light then the other trying them independently. The circuit will handle the 85 watts without blowing a fuse unless there's a short.

alright....so if i want to just use the factory fog on/off switch, how do i do that. where will that positive lead go and what do i do with the PIAA on/off switch that has three wires?

Fog light wires go to relay trigger wires. Larger white power wire goes to battery/fuse. switch wire run it through the fire wall rubber boot.

I took one of the blank buttons and mounted in it.
