Insurance Question

I thought I could post in here as it seems to be a nice crowd that have some knowledge and education to hear me out.

I had a car go into the shop for body repairs. The car was released about a month ago, but today in the mail I got a supplemental check from the insurance company for $2000 made to the body shop with the estimate of the work that still needs to be done. I was wondering if I can cash the check and use it on the 4runner? I would really just like to use it on the 4runner as the car that was worked on is no longer in my possession. Any advise would be great.

Going solely on what youve just said, yes, that money is yours to do what you please with. I know lots of my clients that opt to take the money if its just cosmetic damage, or something they can live with. Least thats how it works in California Nice chunk of change for a 4 runner!

Now if you still had the car, and decided to take the cash and not make repairs, youd just have to let the insurance company document the unrepaired damage that was paid for, so they wouldnt pay for it again, but thats another story.

Hey Thanks Hogester! The check is made out to the body shop only. Will I have issues with cashing the check?

if you own the car its your choice. if you dont the check will be in your name as well as the collision shop.
