Intake mods

With all the information I have read, I am still going to put a Cold Air Intake on my 06.

My question is this:

I plan to manufacture my own intake. What affects would seen by eliminating the airbox from the system? I will add the MAF to the custom intake, as well as any other electronics and sensors.

Please share your thoughts and knowledge.

When you get the intake done I would love to see it. A write up with pics would be awesome. I had a diy intake with my ls1 camaro but it was real simple. Look forward to seeing the final results.
