3.0 V6 Intake Silencer Removal
I was fliping through yotatech when I came across this project and decided I wanted to try it. Some of the materials i'm going to use are going to be different, simply to make it a little easier for me.

Blu had a great finished product though his method, however I've found some of the fittings a little hard to come by. So I'm adapting his design some what.

I should have an update by tonight if not the finished product.

Alright time for some up dates. I've gotten everything done besides painting her, and it turned out, considering I couldn't find all the correct parts.

Unfortunatly those didn't work, as they where to big. So I found some ricer intake adapters at auto zone that actually worked really well.

Did you see any changes in how your 4runner ran after the modification? Better mpg's, more responsive, more torque?

People dont normally get any performance gain out of this other than a louder intake and a little cleaner engine bay. All your doing is changing how air gets from your MAF to the throttle body, not changing the amounts of anything.

I'd like to try this mod. Not looking for any HP increases, but when I replaced the VC gaskets earlier this year all that stuff cracked and split open when I removed the plenum. I currently have about 50 lbs of electrical tape and silicone keeping it together! And those parts are expensive!

Aside from being a cleaner look, seems like there is a smaller volume of air overall. Seems like a more direct flow in the the TB so less air in the intake, but no wasted space, so more volume???

I did it earlier this year, and didn't make it as clean as your modification (yours looks good)...I did it after looking at the path of the intake tube (you call it a "muffler"?) and thought that the box sitting damn near on the exhaust was just un-needed warming of the air...I didn't realize what the purpose of the routing/box was, and just eliminated it by flipping the main tube upside down. I didn't notice any power increase, but with the exhaust modifications I made (cat delete, and muffler change), I did get a slight improvement in MPG (it was my main objective at the time). Who knows what the ultimate gain was, given the 3.0 is such a powerhouse anyway
