So I am planning a vacation around January where I'll be in Tahoe, last time I was up there I got a bit stuck doing some back woods snow fun and was lucky to have someone to yoink me out. I debated over chains and some other stuff and then I remembered about this awesome Australian company I heard about a year or two ago. So while looking for some alternatives (because when I last checked their website they only did international shipping from Australia, yikes! $$$) I found out they have a US distribution center now! :bounce:
So here is a response to an email regarding color availability and if they'd every be interested in doing a group buy:
I'll be honest with you guys, MaxTrax are not cheap; they are one of the more expensive options out there, but you are getting what you pay for. I spent the last few days researching them and they are really the top tier of the market currently. There's a healthy amount of reviews and videos showing these guys in action, there's a ton on their website as well; but I will include some links in the bottom half of this post.
First thing is first, I want to clear up a few critical points regarding their product:

Review of TRED and MaxTrax:

This video is cool, I forget where I read it... I think they say the MaxTrax are like recommended for 1,500 per wheel? But in this video you clearly see its not an issue:

Okay so here's the deal, this thread is mainly about garnering interest and presenting it to MaxTrax for a Group Buy basis. In the Email they made it clear they're willing to work out a Group Buy for us if we can get abut 15 confirmed buyers (or at least 15 sets.)
The MaxTrax comes in sets of 2 (which seems to be enough for most people) running about $299 not including accessories, the rep said they'd knock off about $50 which is a roughly 16% discount. The wording wasn't too clear about shipping, but it was about $24 from Kentucky to California for me (I will see if I can get clarification on that.) I will see what I can do about getting up to date information regarding other colors and availibility, but most likely I would recommend we shoot for more January than December (though if we can get the group buy going before X-Mas and my trip that'd be great; if not I'll still make an effort to help you guys get a discount even if it means I gotta pull the trigger earlier than you guys for my trip and sacrifice my discount; it was just too good an offer to not share with you guys.)

Thanks for writing. We ship from our US Off Road Racing HQ in Wichita, KS and sell primarily at the long course races and military bases. Happy to ship you a set anytime, usually runs about $25 postage ($325 total approx). We currently have yellow, tan, OD green, and maybe one or two odd ball race colors like white, maroon, and pink. More orange, black, and blue are scheduled to arrive mid to late Dec. Big shipping strike at the harbors right now I guess and everything is held up in Long Beach.

We can drop ship to the individuals, they pay on the web site and enter a code, we make the discount. One month window say. Run it up the flag pole and see how many people are interested.
One other note, you might place your order now and get it on backorder, there's a chance several colors will be gone before the load even arrives

- They are not intended as "Bridges" they do flex a bit without cracking, but from my understanding people haven't had any real issues stacking 2 or three and using them as bridges.
- Both TRED and MaxTrax make a point to say to reduce wheel spin on their ramps to a minimum (which you should be doing anyways), one of the biggest complaints against both TRED and MaxTrax is the lugs "Break/Melt/Shear" off (which is clearly more of a misuse deal than poor product.) In all my research this is mainly due to people spinning their tires far too much on the ramps, there's a few videos that show this clearly. Despite this, many people have less than pristine TREDs and MaxTraxs that function just fine with "damaged" lugs, so that's a positive in my book!
- TRED is probably their most direct competitor in terms of quality and value, I personally am wanting MaxTrax not because TRED is a bad company; but rather because I think the MaxTrax are just that little extra better to push them past the competition.
