Interesting Bilstein 5160 rear shock problem..

Hey guys
So the buddy I sold my Bilsteins to calls me up and says his rear shocks are acting funny (thought it was blown) so we take a closer look and the shaft seems to have worked it's way loose from the lower eyelet!

We are still unsure of how it happened, with the shaft unthreading itself from the lower eyelet. Most of the threads seemed ok and we are able to tighten it back in there tight

Speaking of disaster, take a close look at what the exposed shaft did to the poor tire.. yes those are the seams

Dang well i might be parking my rig the next couple days to check this on my rears that i bought off a shop from another members rig.. that’s scary, glad your friends ok thank you for sharing

This was a common problem me and a couple of my buddies had experienced with on our bilsteins 5100s rear shocks on the 3rd gens. There were also a lot of people with the same problems. Try putting red loctite on them.

One of the shop guys suggested a spot weld.. but loctite seems to be the better idea

offtopic...how you like the icon hydro bump stops???

They work as advertised and you can tell when they engage. This was the case when I had softer T12 coils and bilstein 5160 in the rear

However since moving to icon 3" overland coils and KING 2.5 shocks, I don't think I've ever bottomed out enough to engage them lol.
