Interesting experience with 1st oil change

Took my 2010 Limited in for its first 8000km service. I purchased the truck in January under the promotion of free scheduled maintenance for 2 yrs or 480000 kms.

So they hand me the keys back as say - "That'll be $48". I said - "Um, isn't it free?" and the guy replies "Why would it be free"??

He had to go talk to the service manager to figure out why a customer would be asking for a free service, at which time the manager comes out looking confused. Finally a light bulb when off in the manager's head and says "Oh yeah, you must have got that promotion thing from a few months ago....."

I'm very surprised that they don't have it annotated in their system or something.

for real? I bought my Trail in january. Would I qualify for free service? I don't think was mentioned when I bought, nor did i know about it. :(
 
I'm sure they "forgot"... probably just trying to get paid for free service. Well at least they didn't try to deny its existence.

My dealership didn't tell me about it when I bought mine either back in April, but when I learned about it on this forum, I went right back and asked where the info on that was in my paperwork, and they provided it immediately saying they "forgot". I think a lot of dealers are hoping people don't know about it or ask for it, but since it is something Toyota is promoting they have to offer it if you ask. And apparently you don't have to be a current Toyota owner to qualify either. Maybe a lot of it varies by dealership, not sure.
 
I bought my 2010 TE very early January and never thought I qualified for any "included maintenance"? How would I know if I do and were there any specifc restrictions on who qualifies?

i would also like some confirmation of this. I traded in a Toyota and bought my Runner in January. I should qualify based on this.
 
Go figure, they offer 2yr/25,000 mile maintenance and change the oil change interval from 5,000 to 10,000 miles. So what's that, 2 free oil changes and tire rotations? Some promotion.

I'm gonna still try and have them do the service every 5,000 miles.

I purchased our 4Runner about mid-March and got the Premium Care? service plan for 2yrs/24000 only after mentioning to the sales manager that I qualified because I was a current/loyal Toyota customer. After verifying a current VIN and matching insurance card, I was good to go.

The paperwork (the one they print out with all the other crap they print on sale day) said every 5000 miles. The sales manager assured me that I would not be required to come back to thier dealership for the service.

I bought from one dealership and plan to have service done at a closer dealership. When my coupon book came in, it was pre-printed with the selling dealership's info. The coupons are for tire rotation/multi point inspection every 5k and oil every 10k.

I called him to ask about the change from 5 to 10 and he said just take the original paperwork that says 5k and get it changed at 5 if that is what I wanted.
 
Update for you guys: I was at the Toyota dealer today getting some things done and walked over and talked with one of the business managers about the 2yr maintenance and oil change promotion discussed in this thread. Long story short I purchased my TE this past April and he said not to worry I am good to go with the promotion, and hooked me up with the paperwork. I am also not a previous Toyota owner either.

I now get the: 2yr/25,000 mile maintenance and oil change every 10,000 miles. Not the best of promotions but at least a couple of oil changes is better than a sharp stick in the eye. :)
