Interior climate display light - impossible to fix?

Hey guys - 2005 SR5. I know this is probably a long shot, but is there any way to easily fix one of the illumination lamps inside the climate display area? See attached - I took the photo in daylight, so no lights are on. But the area boxed in blue is the area that (at night) no longer has illumination.

One of those small things that's just a big nuisance. So I'm just curious if it is even worth trying to take apart and fix, or if the job just involves too much for something so little.

It's absolutely worth fixing! In fact, I just changed the LED's in my own 4Runner!

That panel snaps right off after pulling the tray below it up & out, then unscrewing the single bolt underneath the unit. On the backside of the screen, there are open spots where you can easily replace the lights.

Costs probably $5-$10 and only takes about 10 minutes from start to finish.

Here's my thread from a few days ago. A few posts in, you can find the LED's I used. If you want to stick with the stock orange color, they have orange LED's.

Here's how to remove the panel.

One question - do I have to remove all of those things that you showed in the pictures just to get this area (in your thread you first removed the center console, then the kick panel before getting to the small tray below the climate gauges. Or can I start somewhere in the middle of your thread? THANK YOU!!

1. Pop open the tray under the climate control buttons
2. Remove the screw on the left thats under the fan speed dial
3. Grab the bottom of the panel you took the screw out of and pull
4. Replace bulb
5. Pop it back in and replace screw you took out

2 minute job, MAX. Did this last week. Had the exact same bulb burn out on me.

I can and have changed my led's in the display out in 5 minutes. Once you do it you realize how easy it is.

I am absolutely amazed at simple this actually seems. I figured it would easily take several hours removing all the panels and stuff. Going to give it a try later today. I appreciate everyone's help!

Just finished it tonight. Went the route of buying a package of Radio Shack microbulbs and had it done within 10 minutes. What a treat to have light in the display area again. Good job Toyota for making this one easy for us! Thanks again for your help everyone

Yeah I did both as well while I had it out. And now, go figure, one of the knob control lights is burned out and has to be replaced. Grrrrrr lol

I was going to say that. For the cost of the bulbs it is worth it to do all of them at once. as they near end of life you will find yourself likely replacing them all as they start to go.
