Interior/dome light

Hey all, new member here I have been through the forum and have learned alot about the t4r but haven't found what I am looking for so I figured I'd ask.

I have an 03 T4R limited, the interior dome light does not work. I have tried the switch in all positions, checked the fuse and relay( fuse and relay marked "dome" in eng compartment) both check out fine. I have also put a test light on the contacts for the bulbs with no result.

The other lights(cargo and door) come on when I open the doors but the dome light seems like it is getting no power. The connector looks to only have only 3 wires, can anyone tell me a procedure for testing for power at the connector?
Which should have power always? which should have power with the door open?

The dome light has the controller for the rear audio included, that does not seem to be working either. I played with the remote and could not get the stations to change. Will this work without the headphones and should there be a display in the back or is this just a reciver for the remote?

Hey Brian, this kind of stuff isn't my string suit but since nobody's offering any help I'm suggesting you check the ground.

Are you talking about the two push on/off lights at your roof console? Don't know specifics about the '03's, but I have an '08 and those map lights do not have a door setting so they won't come on when you open your doors. You just get the center and rear dome lights. If you search for "dome light" or "map light mod" there is a write up on how to can tap into some wires and make those front lights come on as a dome light. The write up had a couple different ways to achieve that mod. I've been meaning to get to it myself. I believe another mod was to get hold of a Lexus LX470 (I think) overhead console. They are apparently not very easy to come by but if you can get one, they fit in the same spot, give the dome light functionality and also have a mic for use with a bluetooth system.

It's baffling that Toyota didn't put dome lights in the front

CXS I have today off so I plan on seeing what I can find with the ground and the connector. I am thinking that the unit itself is bad which would be great. If I can find power at the connector I will just order a new one.

Bob it is the center dome light the map lights work fine. I have seen the map light mod threads but dont need them to come on. I really dont uuse the dome light all that often and the rear seat audio controller but if they are there I would like to have them working.

So I removed the dome light, from the back seat this time, and while pulling it out i found a cigarette butt in the headliner and the dust in the lens cover to be ash.
I had to pull the radio controller off to completely remove the dome light, in doing so i exposed the switch for the light. Filthy is all i can say. I cleaned it all up with a small file and some WD-40 and its all working now.

I am going to get a new battery for the remote control to see if the back set audio controller works. Anyone know if the headphones are needed for this to work?

I'm not sure ground would make much of a difference in running, other than killing a bulb. The test light would have worked and gone out cause of stray currents. When I got my new battery, the stealership STOLE my battery hold downs, and the battery was flying around under the hood. It tore straight off the ground wire, and still worked. I just taped her up and tied her down with a bungee cord, than took back what was rightfully mine. Sorry for the hijack there for a second, OP, but my suggestion is try to follow the wires as best as you can through the car, and you may find your problem somewhere there.
