Interior fan/blower

I have a 2007, V6 Ltd and the interior fan is starting to make a "growling" sound at the higher blower speeds. I opened the glove box, removed the cabin filter and it's a "hamster cage" type of fan and I put some lube on the centre post and that "seemed" to do some good, but in reality it probably did nothing as the growling sound is still there.
Anyone replace this blower/have the same problem/remedies/cost?

Thanks for the reply. Good point, there was a mouse house in there about a year ago. maybe some crap still remains and has found it's way into the blower fan somewhere. I'm going to give it a real good vaccuum tomorrow. The mystery deepens...
 
Thanks, could be. As I mentioned to Acidmeld, had a mouse house in there about a year ago thought I'd cleaned it all out - maybe not. Wish the helll they would put this stuff in easier to access locations and have grease nipples on everything...

Ooh... Check the fan itself if it has been gnawed on. My dad's '99 GTP had a similar problem where the mice had eaten half the blower fan...
 
Blower Mower

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. BlackWorksInc, I rechecked everything and its gotta be the motor bearing. Tried to take it out - it's only three screws with a Torx head but can't undo screw number three (of course!!) as it requires somekind of wrench/screwdriver with a flex shaft. It's the closest one to the firewall. I guess CTC gets more of my money. Are you a mechanic? and have you ever taken one out?

I have not taken one out of a 4Runner, but many other cars and they always seem to have one bolt/screw that is a pain in the ass...
 
Id like to chime in with giving some advise on being careful not to damage the resistor! I cant remember if it's in the actual fan-housing, but what i DO remember is the cost to REPLACE IT! $$$$$$ :jaw drop:

Resister??? what resister?? Maybe I should buy the manual (Haynes is it???) or just let it growl till it growls no more and let the dealer fix it. Thanks for the heads up!

Please post some dis-assembly pics if you pull the thing. Mine's started making noise but it's low enough that I'm ignoring it for now.

Blower problem solved!

Well I decided to have another look and really put my hands into as best I could as there isn't much room and there was still a ball of mouse house makings stuck on the very bottom of the fan basket. Pulled that crap out and "ta-da" no more growling noise!!
You were right Acidmeld - the stuff I failed to get out of the blower probably put it off balance - hence the growling noise as it's all gone now.
Now, all I need to do is find a cat that likes to live in 4Rnrs and play sentry while we're camping...

Well I will be go to hell....there was a critter of some sort that ate a baseball size hole in my cabin air filter and then departed...vacuumed out the debris and zama...no more fan noise.
 
if you go to tacomaworld.com you will find tons on threads about blower motor chirping and how to fix the problem.
