I agree 100% that there are many situations where a high lift Jack would be better. Especially in the muddy mountains or Australia or wherever. This is just my opinion but but for most average 4wheelers a high lift Jack is Overkill, especially for the guys who only get their mall crawling trucks off-road a few times a year. You are definitely right that it is a better tool for certain situations.
My personal preference given the type of Wheeling I do which is mainly moderate black diamond trails not double black or vehicle thrashers, this is a better fit for me. When I last went to Moab I brought my compact floor jack and one tall jack stand.
