Anyone have this issue? I get a short intermittent "chirp" or buzz coming from behind the dash on drivers side. Possibly linked to ABS?
2004 4runner sr5 v-6.

bump.
I have a strange noise coming from my dash sometimes. it sounds like a clicking/ electronic noise. i would compare it to the sound an old computer makes when it is working hard.
i recorded a vid on my cell phone one night when it was really bad, i will upload it soon. anyone else have any strange noise coming from the dash?

Sounds like its the traction control kicking in. Any wheel slippage will cause the TRAC system to operate and results in a beeping sound and like the second poster said, a mechanical hard drive type noise as solenoids and relays open and close for automatic brake application.

Does the huming and clicking coincide with pressure building on the brake pedal? If so, then this is the brake booster.

My 08 makes a click noise about 1-2 seconds after I put it in DRIVE, and i feel the click in my foot that's on the accelerator pedal. No idea what this is. Anyone else know?

That's the weird thing, this happens under normal driving conditions. I usually notice it as stop lights when I am switching the audio and it is quiet.

It doesn't seem to coincide with the brake being pushed, or anything like the radio, AC, traction control or the diff lock, 4wd lo and hi. I have tried all of these while the noise is going on, it only will stop when i shut the car off.

It seems to happen randomly, sometimes when the car is in park too.

Here are 2 videos capturing the noise, turn your speakers up! maybe even headphones

Could be normal electronic sounds

I did hear something like yours when I was lubing my zerks yesterday since I had to have the truck in neutral and jacked one front and rear wheel to rotate the drive shafts (see clunking comments). Kind of an electronic buzz and then nothing. It was regular so I thought it was just the injectors or pressure sensors. These newer vehicles have SO MANY ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS! :cry2:

I just bought an 07 and this morning (after a hard rain yesterday) I went for a ride and kept hearing this "loud sticking valve sound" from the drivers side inner engine wall. I stopped and traced the sound directly to the metal housing right next to the brake fluid reservoir. Happened on and off for about 10 full minutes then it quieted down. No rhyme or reason. Brakes worked well. Any ideas?

Do you have the OEM Toyota Vehicle Intrusion Protection system (not an aftermarket system)? If so there should be a sticker on the drivers and front passenger door windows, unless it has been removed for some reason.

Is there a small speaker grill under the ignition key ? That would have a microphone in it to pick up the sound of breaking glass and and trigger an alarm.

Would the sound be coming from that small grill opening?

I am having this same issue - you described it perfectly. Like an old computer working hard. Mine seems to be happening over 40 MPH under normal driving conditions. Hope to get to the bottom of it soon as it is really annoying.

I have this same problem with my 2004 4Runner.
Sometimes it chirps with the engine off.
I didn't have this problem, previous to replacing the master brake cylinder with a refurbished master brake cylinder.
I have asked several mechanics, without any solid answers.
Until I find out it will be chirping wherever I drive.
I am assuming the noise has something to do with the master brake cylinder.
I would be grateful if someone can share a solution? Thank you!
