Intermittent hard start

So quick update. A month After the starter replacement, the issue of longgg starts came back, so I fiddled more with iac and throttle body, cleaned maf and new air filter and unplugged ecm relay. I also cleaned both 02 sensors and switched to shell fuel. Well some combo of that seems to have helped, as I’ve gone one month without a long start issue and she springs to life when started. I believe that the fuel switch has had the most effect, as my vehicle is regularly maintained. Also i think it takes the ecm/ecu a few weeks to recalculate the optimum ratios for your driving, because my mileage went down to the low15’s at first, but now I’m back to high 17’s/18 mpg. Hope this helps other with similar issues.

I have the exact same issue. Wonder if hard start ever came back, or if you were able to figure out definitively what was causing the hard start

Apologies for the second resurrection. I've got a very similar issue on my mom's 2000 with the 5VZ. She's been telling me about it for the longest time but I've never been able to reproduce it since it's very intermittent. I've been poking around at different things but it still happens to her. I guess it must be getting worse because I can finally get it to happen for me, and often too! Cleaned the MAF. I also broke the fuel pump relay trying to swap it with AC one so that's new now. I was in the middle of testing the fuel pump between the high pressure rubber hose and where it comes off the body (can't remember what that fitting is called) when I randomly had fuel shoot back at me from the engine side. Figured that would be a sign of a bad fuel pressure regulator so I changed that to no avail. Ended up putting in a new fuel pump this weekend. Same stuff.

Along with the random hard start (if at all), it also sometimes starts up with a high idle RPM of about 1,500 (after warming up) and I'm told it will sometimes loose power during takeout at a green light. I'm wondering if I have multiple issues with it or if I'm just missing something stupid. I did feel a rumble with it for a bit with after one of my test starts so I wonder if injectors are the next thing to check.

I’ve got a O2 4Runner just replaced with a 98 Engine. Had to rewire a couple of clips that broke. It’s been running fine for a few months lately. Intermittent no start no codes. Everything is pointing into a camshaft sensor or crankshaft sensor in the midst of rewiring. The camshaft sensor now came across this thread, buddy figure out their intermittent no start?
