Intermittent stalling

My 97 4 runner 4 cylinder 2wd with 104k miles stalls on me once in awhile. At idle, there is a surge from 1000-1500 rpms. Sometimes it goes below 1000. Sometimes stalls in drive at a light, and also when I go into reverse. Car has new wires. Anyone else have similar problem?

auto I'm assuming? check your maf, also the intake rubber for cracks.

My thought would be a clogged EGR. My buddy had one in his 4cyl Tacoma that made his truck do the same thing, but only at idle. A new one was put in and he was good to go.

Also check the idle air controller to make sure it is clean.

Auto yes. I will check boot for cracks.

How do you check If MAF is good?

How is the MAF cleaned? Has anyone done this before?

Drove car today and it seemed like it wanted to stall under initial light acceleration. After first start from cold, car was hard to start. Outside temp was 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Any ideas?

Changed TPS, it solved the problem!

Thanks for the update, 8 months later. Good to hear it got fixed, albeit it being the TPS.
