Intermittent wiper doesn’t work

Intermittent wiper wasn’t working and the wipers just kept going so I replaced the stalk and after $100, problem still there. All other positions work normal except the intermittent position. Any member run across this and what advice can you give? 2000 LTD 4WD

You mean to tell me out of over 30 lookers no one has any advice to give on this thread?

I would check the wiring going to the window motor first. If the wiring is flexed like for example, the wiring harness hooked to any door - it starts cracking after 20+ years of use and can cause an intermittent connection. I had to redo my entire harness from the rear hatch due to cracked wire which luckily fixed some of my electrical issues.

Might not be your problem but it's worthy to check.

Here is the wiring diagram for that circuit.


"3. INT POSITION (w/ INTERMITTENT OPERATION)
With the wiper SW turned to INT position, the relay operated and the current which is connected by relay function flows from
TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW to TERMINAL 2 to GROUND. This flow of the current operates the
intermittent circuit and the current flows from TERMINAL 17 of the front wiper and washer SW to TERMINAL 7 to TERMINAL
2 of the front wiper motor to GROUND and functions. The intermittent operation is controlled by a condenser’s charged and
discharged function installed in relay."

This is most likely an issue in the wiper motor - mine does it intermittently.

Basically, the stalk doesn't get the signal from the wiper motor that it has done a fully cycle due to a dirty track in the wiper motor position sensor.

Wait for the first good rain, and it might start working again on its own...
