Internal engine changes from 2008 to 20011

Has anything inside the engine changed from when Toyota recommended 5-30 oil until the 2010/2011 when they changed to 0-20 synthetic? I just feel 0-20 is too thin for desert use. I have called several synthetic oil manufactures and they all say go ahead and run 0-20 no matter what BUT is it all about cafe standards or what?

I don't have the newer Runner, but from what I'm hearing it has to do with Toyota trying to get into a higher MPG category. As with my Acura TL recommended 5-20, alot of guys there are saying that the thinner oil may actually help to contribute to a shorter life on the engine due to possibly increased wear. Plus to help on figuring out what oil I needed I put the TL on the same as the 4Runner 5w-30 Mobile 1 oil.

Remember this is just hearsay. Not a professional opinion.

I suppose everything inside the engine has changed.
There is so much discussion on this it'll make your head spin.
I recommend going over to the Bob is the oil guy website and reading motor oil 101 if you dare.
