Intrested in a Sub

So I have NO clue about audio at all. But I do love loud music and at times a little bump in my music. I have an 05 SE and it has the JBL sound system. I know there is a factory sub in there but I want a little more "umph" in the bass. Not looking to spend a lot but just enough to get some more bump in when i want it. Any suggestions?

I'm very happy w/ my Kicker CompVR 07CVR8 (8") in the stock location. I chose to power it w/ a MTX Terminator TN250, with the factory JBL amp running the rest of the stock speakers.

I'd say you should go with a 10" or 12" sub in a sealed box.

Unless you're going balls to the wall with your audio, my opinion is why give up the space you paid for when buying an suv?

A decent 8 will hit hard enough to hear a block a way if you're so inclined to crank it up loud enough. The stock enclosure is already a sealed box. I just stuffed mine with some polyfill to emulate a larger box and it sounds great. It has no problem shaking my rear view mirror to the point of not being able to see out of it if I want to turn it up. At normal volume it just adds the extra bass that stock lacks without giving you a back massage and causing bolts to back out.

But that's just my opinion

I don't have any, but I can try to take some this weekend. To be honest, there isn't much to see (by design). I've got the Kicker in the stock location in the rear panel, and the amp under the front seat. You can see the sub behind the grill, but it really looks like a sub behind a grill

Sorry, left out "just" it "just" look likes a sub behind a grill -- as in speaker grill. The stock sub is located behind round perforated area in the back right.

I'll try to take a picture this weekend.

You can make a speaker bigger than 8" fit without taking too much space. I fit a 12'', 2 amps, and the 4 crossovers in the right rear. It doesn't look exactly factory but it's a clean setup & I have the space I need.

If you give us a price range for sub(s), enclosure, amp, and wiring kit - a lot of guys on here can put together a really solid set up. We'll recommend you on subs on amps on the guage wiring you'll need, etc. There is so MANY options out there that let you get loud with decent quality. Keep your options open!

Sorry it took so long. Just got a new digital camera for Christmas and remembered that I promised pics. Here's one. The flash on the camera really shows off the sub behind the stock grill. When you're looking at it IRL it looks much more like a standard speaker grill than this photo shows (ie: you can't really see the sub behind it except for in the photos)

So it looks like the interior panel already had the cutout in it for the sub, correct? I have a 4Runner with the Urban Runner trim package, hence no sub in that location. I was wondering if I could get the part numbers for the interior panels, and check with the stealership to see how much they want for them. I wonder if I could simply replace the interior panels, and add the sub myself?

Sorry, I don't have the part numbers, and I'm currently in an area without access to a garage. It's 14 degree's outside, so honestly, I'm not going to spend the 45 minutes it takes to get them all out to look for the part numbers.

What I can tell you however, is that these are my stock panels in an 03 Limited with the JBL system. I would assume the panels are the same for any of the JBL systems w/ factory sub. You might be able to pull these parts from a U-Pull-It type place way cheaper than the dealer. You may also be able to trade out your panels with someone who's gone the separate box route, on here. There may be people who want the cleaner look of not having a speaker grill on the side (passenger rear) panel if they're not using the stock location.

I can also tell you that I used the factory sub box. In the factory configuration, it servers double purpose of mounting the stock amp and stock 8" sub.

Thanks for all of the info. 14 degrees.....dang, that's cold. I wouldn't go out for P/Ns either.....

I will check with the U-Pull-It type places to see if I can get the panels. I will also look online to see if I can get the P/Ns that way. Thanks again for the information.

the jbl sub cover comes with the right deck side trim, can't get seperate and it list for $425. i wanted to go the same route but after i saw the price i changed direction.

I had 2 10 " Kenwood subs and a Kenwood 350W amp, but it didnt satisfy me. I recently bought 2 15" Kick Comps and a Boss 1400W amp and you could hear me before you see me a couple blocks away.
