After a few months of shopping around and talking to the brothers about it.. We decided it was time to get our parents a new car.. They have been driving around a POS 90 Ford Aerostar for the past 16 years, after 5 years of owning the van, the a/c went out and they have been driving around for the last 11 years with no AC during the hot summer. Everytime they think its the right time to buy a new car, somethng always come up with money and we just barely get by living day to day. Now things are getting better, and we decided to put some money together and buy them a new car that they been looking and trying to buy for the past 7 years. They wanted a mid-size SUV, we made a little list of what we think would be best for them. Consisting of a Honda Pilot, Nissan Titan, Highlander, Tahoe, and the 4runner. The Titan ended up being too large for our mother, while the highlander was too small. Tahoe was out of the picture because they didn't want a Chevy. So it was down to being a Pilot and a 4 runner. I think we made the right choice. The 4runner fits our family well, it has enough room for us big guys, its reliable, well-built, etc..

Weather-Tech Floor mats. Very good investment because the 4 runner is driven off-road and in the farm quite a bit.

At about 3000miles, its already doing some light towing duties. We decided to move one of our project car and tools to our parents house (lots of room to work on it..:awais: ) I might add that the 4 runner did extremely well while towing the car with a lot of parts + tools in it. Parts were straped down on the trailer as well. The load even included 5 people (3 200+lbs fatasses) and all our luggage. Pulling it up and over the Grapevine was nothing..!

Dude, thats a nice corolla you got there. Make sure you throw up some pics of that thing too! Also it's pretty kewl that you and yoru brothers bought your parents a car.

Alex: They are great, I don't think any other floor mats would come close to it. They are made from a hard rubber like compound. The front mats are hard, the rear is a bit softer, and the cargo is soft.

Congrats and it's nice to see you and your brothers return gratitude to your parents. I hope one day, I can do the same for mine. I can see you're a loyal Toyota owner too. My 4Runner is the 4th Toyota we have. Love the pic with the air compressor inside the Corolla's engine bay. A drift car?

Thanks, I'm glad you see that, while sadly some people don't. Hahha, the air compressor in the engine bay was the only way for us to move it. The engine, trans and such was sitting inside the car (didn't have the engine mount brackets to lay it inside the bay). I'm also surprise that some one you guys recongnize the corolla. Its just going to be our little track car, both drift and grip.

Thanks. I got the mats from Weathertech.com USA site. Paid $275 shipped for the complete set (front, rear and cargo). I think weathertech is a Canadian company, but they shipped these mats from Lenexa, KS. It came in 2 different packages and i received them in 4 days.

They combined shipping, I thought I would be charged $15 for each package but when I printed out the recipt I noticed that $15 was for both boxes

I like those weathertech floormats, though i already have the all weather toyota and a huskyliner for the back... Give it a few more winters and tahoe and wear and tear from the dogs and ill have to upgrade to the weathertech.

I really do like the look of the new running boards / side steps on the 06. But toyota wants an arm and a leg for them.

Self oil change, best way to save money and to insure you that it is done with quality. Mother knows how to take care of a car, she purchased the oil, however she got 10w-30 instead of 5w-30, which isn't a big issue. The important thing is that she got synthetic. :awais: Also for those who would like, I can do a DIY write up for a V6 oil change.

I think the thing that impresses me the most is that v6 towing that 2000+lb car trailer + car + fat guys : over the grapevine. Any problems doing that, and did you wish you had a V8?

I haven't bought my 4R yet, but I am thinking about the v6 LE, and since I don't see any V8 emblems and from your sig, it looks like that one's a V6 too. That's awesome!

Also, why the Scion HU? What makes it better than the Stock HU?

Malmegren: Thanks! The 4R did very well pulling everything up/over the Grapevine. At that time, the 4R had about 3000 or so miles on it so we took it a bit easy. The transmission shifted really smooth when we changed gears, no complains from here! My brother has a Tundra, so comparing the V8 and V6 for towing, the V8 does feel a bit more "relax" going up a hill. Other then that, the v6 is more then enough for towing. On a flat surface, they feel the same! But if you are going to do a lot of heavy towing, then I would suggest the V8 just for insurance later on down the road.

Scion HU is a Pioneer unit, the sound quality is more better and it's more attractive over the factory HU. The Scion unit is a straight plug n play, the buttons from the steering wheel and the auto-up for the volume works as well with the 4R! I highly suggest this small upgrade!

Lunchbox: I think we paid about $250 for the OEM Spoiler. It was color matched and installed as well for that price! But that was through a special friend..:

DIY writeup for the V6 oil change....I would like to see it. Would it be the same for the SR5 V6 also? Or are there extra skid plates on the SE?
