intrument cluster lights?

just got my new 04 4runner v6 sr5 couple days ago and notice that the instrument cluster lights is on when ignition is on. but the light switch is off, is this normal or what.

I have a 04 LTD and it does the same thing.

Yes, it's normal.

The deep-set instrument cluster was too hard to see in the '03, so for '04 Toyota added full-time illumination.

I wish my 03 had that. I think there was a TSB for the issue that dancojgl mentioned.

I wish the whole lighting thing was different. This is my only gripe about 4th gens. The color is dismal. Is it orange- yellow? I was in a 3 year old VW GTI the other day. The dash comes alive at night, with a nice blue illumination.
