Iowa Hill Trip - 4/13/09

Who would like to come for an overnight trip to Iowa Hill Loop?

Pritchnakoff and I were talking about any dates during the week of 4/13/09-4/17/09.

let's discuss. Ruffyian and I have been there. It's very beautiful and scenic. I was there when it was raining and because most of the trails were closed I haven't rode most of them. I did clock 60 miles of offroading that day though.

it's great for beginners up to intermediate. I don't think there is anything too tough but who knows.

I figure we can all stick together and hit some trails, then meetup for a bbq at the beautiful lake there and then take off on our own for the rest of the day and meet up at the Iowa Hill bridge, which will be our campsite.

Please voice your interest asap, so I can arrange campground reservations. If anyone has a boat, this is a great location to bring one!

I might be interested. Ive wheeled up around there before and i grew up near there. I live near sacramento now. That wouldnt be the perfect time for me though because i will have time off from college for spring break the week before but either way lemme know on any update for this thing and i will keep an eye on the thread. Ill most likely be down to go even if im in school.

sierra college its a ways from davis but kinda in between sac and the iowa hill area. just waiting for my BL to come in from roger brown and pick up some new wheels and tires and ill be down the cruise up there in april sometime. shit who am i kidding... i do enough stock-wheeling as it is! like i said just let me know when and where.

Ruffian and I would love to go too guys & gals. I just did a bunch of major work to her these past two weeks. (Getting ready to hit the 75,000 miles maintenance mark so doing one project at a time as that's all a lone gal can do.) Oh and her stock muffler and resonator are gone!
Anyway, I'm up for it, but I still tell you guys that the wheeling in Iowa Hill/Foresthill is pretty tame. Just dirt roads. Are ya sure that's all you want? You don't even need 4WD. Since I'm already up here, I can help with either finding a SAFE place to camp or since it's not that far of a drive to town, a place to stay for all of you out of towners to camp out in a hotel/motel. Tons of probably cheaper places to stay down in Rocklin & Roseville instead of paying higher prices for the small places up in Colfax/Iowa Hill area. Auburn too. But cheapest is still going to be in the 30 min drive back down the hill into Rocklin/Roseville. Honestly, ya all don't want to camp in Iowa Hill. It's not safe. Unless there is say maybe about 15 of us. And a couple of protective dogs. And I'm telling Placer County Sheriffs Deputies & Dispatchers that we are camping out there. And I'm bringing a weapon. And a shovel to bury the meth heads.....erm....off topic. Sorry. Anyway, if you want to camp, do it down in Auburn right off the confluence at the river just outside of Foresthill. But NOT in Iowa Hill. K? 'Nuff said.

I brought up iowa hill because it is pretty easy, but it makes up for that in scenery. Hollister and other parks don't have shite to look at.

Also, most of the guys here are first timers...

I would definitely be down for an overnight camp - good time to break out the tent for the Summer season.

I can go either way for trail rating, but seriously, if we are going all that way and staying the night, I think we should be doing at least 4 or 5 rated trails. With 4R capability that will be a decent challenge for two wheel drive units and still fun enough to try 'off' lines for those of us with four-lo.

Plus Jamie you already checked out Iowa Hill why not get some sweet pics of a new place?

Just for clarification: I'm a L.E.O. (law enforcement officer) by career. It's ok to play around in Iowa Hill, but really it's not a safe place AFTER dark. I'm not going to post details online. I'm willing to talk about them via email however so I'll send you guys a PM with my email addy.
Here's what I'd reccomend. You guys come on up and we can play around in Iowa Hill/Foresthill on the first day. Either camp down in Auburn or hotel camp further down in Rocklin/Roseville. Then the next day we'll get up early and hit some harder trails where you will get use out of your 4Runner 4WD and I'll show you some gorgeous scenery. You can either opt for some Class 2/3/4 stuff or I can take you on some more challenging dirt trails but it still won't be rock crawling. Or I can take you rock crawling up in the Sierras. Class 4 stuff.

Runs I have in mind for you guys: P.S. Ruffian is COMPLETELY stock in all these photos.

Signal Peak: rated Easy...and if it's too easy, I can take you over to the Eagle Lakes trail head and we can find some med. rated stuff.

Eagle Lakes...still easy but 4Lo is helpful.

Nevada City: Allegheny & North Bloomfield

Sounds like a good idea.

For the record, once you are in the park (coming from the forest hill ranger station) there are tons of trails ranging from easy to pretty difficult. I wasn't able to try hardly any of them because they were closed on the account of rain.

I'm sure most people would have a great time at the foresthill area, and I think the second day, hitting up signal hill would be great too.

I work a swing on Mondays, 2 pm to 10 pm. However I can meet up with you guys in the a.m., but I have to head into Auburn and be on duty by 1400.

Tues & Wed. I'm off and we can hit the hills then!!

Actually I'm heading to Reno on Sunday so I'm hoping I'll get to do some snow wheeling again.

Pritch and ruffian; I'm open as of right now for that week in april, and i'll have 1 more passenger coming with. Let's figure out a date. I'm cool with a day trip to iowa hill, and then eagle lakes...

There is a TON of stuff to check out in that area, so I'm really cool with anything.

Sounds good to me. I know Pritch won't be available here for a week or so. I work Mondays but am off Tues & Wed. I'd be glad to be trail master for a trip to either the Allegheny/North Bloomfield or the Eagle Lakes/Signal Peak trips that I've done many times both on my own and with the 4WD club I'm a member with. Either one of them would be say a 4 to 6 hour adventure depending on how much sight seeing we do. So that would be a Tuesday thing for me. I say you guys spend Monday getting up here, maybe head into Iowa Hill/Foresthill area and figure out where you're spending the night. If you guys make it up here before I head into work at 2 pm, we can meet up for lunch. :biggrin2:

i live in rocklin but grew up in nevdada county. i am down to go too. anyone of those places have good trails. we can get as wild as desired. me and my buddies go out just about every weekend and tear it up around nevada/placer county. tons of places to drive low-med-hi difficulty. count me in just let me know when.

i have class at nights all week (totally open on weekends) but no class the week before (starting 4/6) for spring break. but its all good cause my school isnt too far so im not worried about it.

Ok, Pritch & Jamie et al. one more point to ask. Since we are getting a herd of Runners together, do you guys have CB's? If not and you don't want to no worries. I have some FSR's (Family service radios) you can either borrow or one of you stop in at your local Radio Shack or Frys and look into them. Cheaper than getting a CB set up, but the sound is harsh the farther you are from your 'friend'. Yes, I'll be using my CB and high powered antenna. It's nice to be able to talk to each other and communicate. Esp. for a question or if there is a problem. If you guys have yahoo IM, add me. mischievous_mendy

hey guys, sounds like things are progressing along quite nicely - I'm getting excited!

I have a couple motorola talk abouts that have served me well on past wheels, but are no means as good as a CB. I'll be more than happy to give up my opposite end for communication; if anyone else has one of these already that would be good to save some $$.

Jamie, perhaps we can discuss camp spots tomorrow at lunch since we'll be out in Stanislaus co.
