iPhone 3G & Toyota's "Interface Kit for iPod"?

We have an '07 with the factory Nav & JBL with a 3rd party iPod connector. Since upgrading to 3G iPhones, the iPod connector no longer works, so we need to replace it.

Does anyone know if the factory "Interface Kit for iPod" will work with both the 3G iPhone and the '07 factory Nav? The guys at the dealer don't know.

If not, is there another recommendation? Thanks.

I do not know the exact model number but Kenwood makes a unit that WILL work with the iphone 3g. The guy i work with has one and just installed it about 3 weeks ago. Its not an in dash unit though, its the one where the screen folds in and out. They might make one that is an in dash unit but i do not know which it is. and by that i mean it is the smaller unit that goes into the dash but just isnt like the factory built in screen that comes on the limited models. I might be able to find out the model number on that unit today but it was about $1000 if that gives you a starting place.

Thanks. I didn't mean we want to replace the nav system, just the iPod connector.

Now are you having a problem with controlling your iPhone 3g after connecting it or is it not charging or both ?

If charging is the issue for the 3G you will need an adaptor like this:

Charging not working?

If you're looking for charging, the hardware has to be set up to support it. There are two voltages that the iPhone/iPod can charge from -- 5V (USB) or 12V (Firewire). Obviously, the 12V charger is what you'll find in most vehicle adapters. The iPhone 3G and newer iPods don't support 12V charging, only 5V (that's why it can't charge off of firewire). I'm not sure what iPod connector is on the stereo, but my guess is that it's 12V, and you can't charge. I've got an iPhone 3G too, so I'd be interested to see if you are still able to interface the controls, charging, or neither.

The option above looks decent, probably just a 5V regulator and pin adapter.

I just purchased this today because my iphone 3g would not work with my Scion T1808. Everything works now; my phone charges and I can listen to music from my playlists and even use the Pandora app to play music. I don't think I can accept calls or email while it is hooked up though.
