iPhone and OBD Computer in the 4Runner

I came across a new application for the iphone called Rev. Supposedly, this application should let you pull off various readings from the OBD-II using the built in wireless internet of the iphone. A company is releasing a an OBD-II wireless device that is basically a wireless internet card that plugs into the port under your steering column. Now, this program is new and the hardware has not been released yet. Do you guys think this will work on the 4Runner? If it will, this is the second greatest invention besides the lightbulb You can get fuel consumption, speed, rpm, warning codes, 0-60 times, etc on the iphone!

I would think that Bluetooth would be a lot more practical than Wi-Fi for an OBD device, but I can understand that Wi-Fi would offer a little more flexibility for things like phones where you don't have full access to the platform's programming capabilities. You might have to jump through hoops to access the Bluetooth interface on the phone, but Wi-Fi would just work magically. If the Wi-Fi is not secured, then it would also allow you to avoid explicitly registering the connection on the phone.

Hopefully the OBD device will support CAN bus; it should, as that's the current direction for OBD communication. The Web site doesn't mention any manufacturer-specific data collection. As long as the device can talk to the bus, it should read the generic codes and data from any make/model.
