IPod and CD changer

I've done some searching, but I want to get it clear in my head from those of you who have installed the IPod...

Is it true that the only time the AUX plug that the IPod needs to run through the stereo is occupied is when the 6-CD changer is remotely located from the head unit (as in the mid-level 6 speaker, JBL option)?

I.e., if I get the 10 speaker system with the CD changer in the head unit, the AUX plug should still be available for the IPod. Is that correct?

Dave.
