iPod for Nav via Pac-Audio?

I'm trying to hook up my new iPod to my '04 4Runner with NAV. Tried the FM transmitters but unacceptable sound.

Looking at 2 option now: the AUX-POD from pac-audio

and the AIC-100i

The aux-pod is $150 vs 370 for the vais.

Has anyone used either one of these?
Does anyone know if the Nav unit in the 4runner support MD text?

I decided to go with the PAC AUX-POD and should have it today. Going to use Rando's awesome pictorial based HU removal instructions, talk about a hec of resource!, to help me install the interface into the HU.

I got the item on ebay from specialty2002 with both cables required, no extra charge for $158 shipped.

I would have really liked an interface that allowded for viewing text on the NAV screen but from my research this won't be possible without a MD text based HU, not common in the states.

For now I'll be happy with steering wheel controls, excellent sound, iPod charging and, hopefully, back seat controls via the remote.

I have an IPod .... but I am waiting to see if I can pop in a 2006 4Runner JBL headunit into my 05 ... since the 06 model has the accessory jack built in.

NO GO on the PAC Audio Aux POD!

Took apart the dash and the NAV head unit did not see it was there. The AUX-POD says it will only work with HUs that are capable of a changer and/or satellite reciever. I don't think the NAV unit in the 04 4runner is.

I'm so disappointed as I only bought the iPod for driving, now I need to decide if I need to return it or buy another car! Well, not really, just need to figure out how to hook this thing up - FAST!

On that note, has anyone here interfaced an iPod into the NAV HU directly???

This is something that several companies have been playing with and although it may appear that some have accomplished the task, they are hesitant to release their products. The most impressive by far is Coastal Electronics (www.coastaletech.com), which is a company of Prius owners. They have managed to develop an audio/video switcher that directly interfaces with the stock Toyota nav unit. They also have an Ipod adapter that lets you choose menus, such genre, artist, song title, directly from the touch menu. Now for the sucky part -- although they have videos showing this technology and product descriptions on their website, they are still hesitant to release/ship their products. I was actually one of first people to sign up for on of their audio/video switchers, which they assured me would be out in a couple weeks -- this was back in February. They are really nice though -- Kelley is real friendly and helped me a lot, but I just feel that they are a company that has grown too fast to support the demand. So, the search continues ...

I'm now working with VAIS Technology, pricey, but they are attempting to confirm that their unit, the AIC-100i, will work with my head unit. I think they use the 20 pin connector on the HU and not the 12 pin that PAC audio uses which should afford more control. Still no MD-Text on NAV display but these HUs don't support MD text from what I'm told.

ALL I WANT IS MY 60GB of MUSIC! Who woulda thought it would be so difficult with this NAV HU?!
