iPod functionality of the AVIC D-3

Can someone who has the Pioneer AVIC D-3 comment on its iPod functionality. Specifically, I'm interested in video compatability. I know the audio functions are supposed to be fully integrated into the touch screen of the D-3, but I think that I read somewhere that to control iPod video playback you must use the iPod unit itself.

Anyone had any experience with this.

Also, any thoughts on how the D-3 compares to the Alpine DNX 7100.

You mean the kenwood DNX7100...

Anyway, I don't know about the IPOD video capabilities, but they are quite different.

The AVIC-D3 is not motorized, single CD/DVD drive... meaning you must load the nav CD everytime you plan to enter a route.

The Kenwood DNX7100 has dual drives, one for the navigation disc and the other for DVDs, CDs, etc... so you just leave the nav disc in just as you would with the AVIC-D2. It also has a motorized face.

Pioneer also has been known to have a better ipod interface than kenwood, and 2nd behind Alpine who obviously has the best.

Kenwoods nav is done by Garmin, but the pioneer designed the D3 to blend in well with factory features. Pioneers nav is good too, but I give the upperhand to kenwood with nav.

Yes, you do need to use the iPod itself to control video playback, but it really hasn't been an issue for me as I have the iPod in my center console.

Re: iPod audio controls-- I personally prefer it to Alpine b/c you can search by genre (only interface I've come across that has this feature)

Love the D3 so far- looks stock and much cheaper with all options included.
