iPod Hookup for 2005 JBL changer

Hi everybody,

I'm new to the forums, and I just got my T4R last Friday. I have the 6 Disc JBL changer / tape deck in mine, and I wanted to know if it's possible to hook up a USA spec iPod adapter without disabling the cd changer function.

If so, can anyone provide me with some info, a website that helps out or a link to another thread on this forum???

I have that setup (minus the tape deck... 2007) but I'm not quite sure I follow what you mean.

When you connect the US Spec it acts as an external changer. So as far as your stereo knows, it has 6CDs in house and 1 or 2 CDs (depending on how your set your US Spec up).

So for instance in my case, I can change to all the CDs in the internal changer. Then I can switch to the AUX (which the stereo thinks is an external CD changer) and select CD 5 for my Sirius Radio or CD 6 for my iPod/iPhone. CDs 1-4 is reserved when you are in hybrid mode it allows you to select 4 differnt playlists by selecting CDs 1-4.

Well, the difference between the 2007 deck and the 2005 deck (which i have) is the lack of an "aux" button on the front. The 2007 has the "cd-aux" button which cycles between the two whereas the 2005 just has the 'cd' button. That's why i was wondering, and i thought i saw somewhere that you had to disconnect the cd changer to get an ipod to work even with a usa spec adapter....

If you have the onboard 6disc then there is nothing to disconnect. The back of the 07 and the back of the 05 is exactly the same. I had the 04 (before buying the 07) and it had the exact same connectors.

I guess this is my question: So say I install a USA spec aux input device to the back of my 05 JBL changer. How do I go about getting the radio to switch to using that input - as opposed to the CD, radio or tape deck.

Upon usage, does the USA spec device make itself the primary input and play the iPod songs? And then when the iPod is unplugged from the device, does the radio go back to the normal input signals (i.e. cd, radio, tape)?

Does this clear my question up at all? I saw your setup for your iphone/ipod and was really impressed. I plan on installing mine simularly when I get this all straightened. Thanks!!!

I think the best way to answer your question is to email US Spec. I had to ask them several questions about the unit and how it would interact and they were quick to answer my questions. My guess is that your stereo has the capability to handle an external CD Changer so it should handle the US Spec device just fine. I know it seems uncertain how you would "engage" the US Spec and then switch back to radio/tape/indash CD but I'm fairly certain those US Lec devices were made for all the model year head units. Contact US Spec... I'm sure they can help.

As for your second question. The US Spec acts like a CD changer, so when you plug in your ipod your HU switches to it just like your HU automatically plays when you insert a CD. And when you unplug it, just like ejecting a CD the HU switches to your last device (such as the radio). In my case it always goes back to my Sirius Radio.
