I have the USA-Spec pa11-toy. I installed it with a Scion headunit but it works the same with the toyota base head unit. There are two setting on the pa11. There is playlist mode and direct mode. Playlist mode makes it so you can control 5 playlists as if they were discs in a cd changer. However, it locks the ipod so you can only use these 5 playlists. I chose to put the pa11 in direct mode. This allows me to control the ipod by using the ipod buttons. It also lets me skip/ff a track through the headunit and steering wheel controls. This way, I have access to all of my songs. You have to choose which setting (Playlist or Direct) when you install the pa11 so you cannot switch it during use. It will not display text either way. It will only show up on the headunit as if it is a cd changer.
