irok nd manufacturer defects?

just made a 1000 mile trip and tires rode like crap at 70mph. vibration is getting out of control. got to family house for the holidays and checked the tread. 265/75/16 irok nd's with about 20k on them. not at wear bar yet. i have rotated every oil change. alignments have been done as well as tire balances. So does this look like a defect or possibly bad struts or springs. 205k on 99. most likely original. still have 1000miles to drive back home:frusty:

Were they brand new and then you did a 1000 mile drive? If not how many miles are on them? I sold some 37" Super swampers back in march and 2 were defective from the factory, they split down the centerline when they got mounted.
 
Sorry to say this.....as much as I LOVE Swampers off road, they are NOT road tires, in spite of what Interco says.

Ya, I'd definitely contact Interco with your pics and see what they have to say. Obviously, they're a small mfg......and they've had all kinds of warranty issues in the past from tire separations to bad compounds.

Good luck to you.....hopefully they'll stand behind their product.
 
In addition, If you bought them from a local certified dealer then you should go through the warranty process with them. If they determine it has a manufacture issue they will pro-rate you credit based on years owned/tread left within the scope of the warranty.

Appearance wise, to me, these don't look like a defect. The center lugs on those tires have a dual step on them. This is for cleaning purposes. However, it looks like you've gone past that first step and what you're seeing is parts of that those on the lower step of the center lugs due to being out of balance. Which also explains why they're a rough ride.

For future reference, it's good to note that not only do tires (especially aggressive offroad tires) need to be rotated religiously, but they also need to be rebalanced from time to time.

I just have accepted the fact that with my swampers (TSL LTBs to be exact), that I can't go over 60 without balancing issues. Below, 60, they are balanced great. I've only got maybe 1,000 miles on them though.

luckily i bought them here in Tacoma Wa from 4wheel parts. just happen to be several miles from there now. getting ready to make my trip back to cali in a few days so i plan on swinging by to day and see what they say. I rotated ever 3500. I know my suspension is tired and needs upgraded. plan on lifting asap. was going to lift when it was time for new tires since i would jump to a 285. wish i could just pull the trigger now on lift and tires, but with 4 children the Trav funds constantly disappear.

I think the tires being out of balance and you explaining you might get a little bounce out of the old suspension explains why the top step of the lug would partially remain on the lower step. Rotating them religiously helps but doesn't do as much as it could to help when the tires themselves are unbalanced.

Sounds like you need some less aggressive tires next time! Let us know what you find out from 4wp.
 
so just popped in at 4wp, "there swampers", is about all i got from the conversation. For the most part ive been satisfied with these tires. great in snow, mud, sand, rock, and rain. typical howl on pavement, but the last 400 miles on the trip up here were terrible. while living in washington these tires served me well for the type of driving i did. do to the recent move to cali i forsee several trips a year to see the family, so an AT will be a must. not looking forward to the return trip home. i feel like the fat kid chunk doing the truffle shuffle, while im driving. (off the movie, Goonies). probably going to run the ko2's in a 285 next time around. have to tuff it out till i get my lift. my step mother just got a set of ko2's on her 01 tacoma and i was very pleased especially in the snow. going to balance them best as possible before i leave town and hopefully that will calm them down ah bit.

Yep....kinda echoed what I meant about them being horrible road tires. Sometimes, with wear they get better....sometimes they get worse. I'd still try contacting Interco directly with photos and get their input. They might surprise you by warrantying...they might not, but it's worth a try.

Definitely get them rebalanced.....I wouldn't be surprised if they are out of round at this point.

Might even try air soft BBs inside....or you can spend a lot more for dynabeads.
 
Are you really expecting these to ride smooth? These are literally treads more at home on an ancient Soviet Chernobyl cleanup vehicle than on a mid 90s Japanese SUV that people used to show off.

Probably depends on the subjective opinion of the person experiencing the ride quality....but a radial Swamper of that size should be fairly reasonable to expect a decent ride quality for such an aggressive tire. But...personal opinion of acceptable can vary quite a bit between users.

Personally, if the vehicle rides rough....I look to suspension far more than tires...provided you don't an obvious tire problem (like out of round, etc.)
 
I'd definitely suggest getting them as balanced as possible before the trip back.

I just had this problem with my previous tires. They were very aggressive m/t's and the lower the tread got, the harsher the ride was. A lot of rattle and wobble from them. Thankful to have gotten rid of them recently and now my truck rides like a Cadillac!
 
just had them re-balanced and wow, 10-16oz per tire. should help some, but I'll find out how much tonight when i hit the road.
 
put the best two up front and was much better after another balance. they will have to do till the build begins. Thinking about going with the ss 1.2a with ah 285 ko2
