Is 200,000 miles too many to buy?

Hi all,

I'm new over here...currently an FJ Cruiser owner looking to get into a 3rd gen 4runner. I'm looking for the rear dif lock and I love the green color with color-keyed bumpers. I found this one but I'm concerned that the mileage is pretty high at 202,000. I know these trucks last a lot more than that. Should I be worried? and how much do you think I could bring them down on price?

Yeah, they will last forever. I'm sure that will go to 350k without many issues, but still...

I'm shopping too, and have set myself a limit of 150k. Personally, I think 200 is too many to buy. But it depends. Mine will be a DD, what are youg onna use yours for?

Mine will basically be a DD for a little while until we get a small around town car. But I plan on building it up to be a well equipped expedition rig over the next year or two. It's in REALLY good shape and I'm told they are most highway miles....but it still has 200,000+

For a DD, 200k is a bit high. I have no doubt the Toy will keep running, but there may be some parts that will need to be replaced due to miles and age of them.

200k on a strictly off road rig that is built up, not an issue assuming most parts that could break will be upgraded or replaced with less everyday wear and tear put on them.

Dealers are hard-pressed to give a 200k mile vehicle a "Certified Pre-Owned" status. Too much risk of repairs at that level of mileage. If anything, it will be sold "As-Is" with no warranty of any kind.

I just drove it and it drove well. The paint isn't great but I'm going to get a bunch of pin stripping anyways. There's a fair amount of rust on the frame but it's a midwest vehicle...not rusted through by anymeans.

I got them down to $4,500 but walked away...I have a few others I'm looking at but they told me their offer stands.

Is that a good price?

What maintenance records: has timing belt been changed etc. If it has been maintained 200k is ok these are great engines but pricey to rebuild. my $0.02

I know the feeling. I found a 2001 Sport Edition Black but it had 206k miles. I just can't go that high considering I'm gonna keep the car for at least 4-5 years. Plus I'm a starving student and can't afford costly repairs. My limit is under 150k for a 3rd gen and under 115K for a 4th gen.

There are a few records from toyota but nothing extensive...I didn't see timing belt or anything much more than brakes and fluid changes.
