Short answer… NO.
Seriously dude, look up the 4runners towing capacity and the weight of a land cruiser plus trailer and do the simple math.

Also why would you tow a Landcruiser with a 4Runner shouldnt it be the other way round

Will it do it? Of course it will, but that doesn't mean it should.

It will be very slow to get going, and it will be very slow to stop. Loading the trailer correctly will play a huge role, since the 80 is quite nose heavy with that big six.

I'd rather rent a truck and trailer to save the yourself the headache.
 
I saw a guy towing a 25' Toy hauler this weekend with a 3rd gen. So can it? Sure. Should it? No.

I'd rent a truck from home depot, or u-haul. Something like that.

Oh no. I can get the insurance and how can I have it on the road without plates?
We plan to do this on Saturday and DMV is closed.

This is the first time I am buying a car far away from home.

Im not going to lie. I had to do this. Threw my other vehicle plate on the 4runner. Added insurance. And drove safely 60 miles home.

you should be able to get a temprary tag from the DMV. Yes it's an extra 50 or so dollars but it will make it so you could drive it home.

just a thought. good luck and good find on the LC. I'm jealous.
 
I'd just risk driving it home with no plate. I mean, you'll have the signed title, a bill of sale with the same date, and insurance. I'd think a cop would be pretty understanding, and even if not, the ticket will be cheaper than renting a truck.

I agree! that is what I would do. Just follow in the 4Runner so no one can see the back of it. I have been driving with no front license plate on my vehicle for years in Cali and no one has said a thing.

Better to throw a plate on and avoid suspicion. Not hard to come up with an extra set of plates.

When I first bought my 4runner I had left it at a garage for a safety certification. I asked my Dad if he could pick it up since he was in the neighbourhood so I wouldn't have to leave work early. He calls me and says he got it home but I owed him a pile of money for the ticket. I was pissed all afternoon that he took the main road home and got busted. When I got home the joke was on me because he'd made it all up. Bonus points for getting my wife to go along with it!
 
If its anything like AZ you can get a plate for a day and its super cheap right from your online DMV (if your state has it). Tape the paper plate in the rear window and drive it back. This exists in AZ exactly for situations like you have.

Id check into that where you are. If you are coming from out of state just trailer it. rent/borrow a truck and trailer.

Just an FYI: If you haven't already done so I would go ahead and pay for a carfax on that vehicle before I would even drive to the border of Mexico to buy a vehicle

Yes, car fax. And thanks for all your input. I talked to the seller and he seems to be OK with having his plates on while I bring it to my home. this should solve all the issues.
Can't wait to own a FJ 80.

In my state you can drive it home with only a bill of sale and proof of insurance for situations exactly like this. Call the DMV in any state you are passing through and see what they require, you may only need a bill of sale and insurance.
 
rent a large SUV or full size truck from a rental car place. You can get them at econo car pricing if thats all they have left on the lot. They call it a free upgrade.

I got a full size chevy for 40 bucks a day once, unlimited mileage.
 
Get a temperay 3 day plate( similar program should be available ), insurance and another driver. Not the safest tow, if you don't have to. Post pics of new cruiser when ya get it. Good luck
