Is BudBuilt customer service is slipping? Bad experience

I ordered a battery tray and was charged March 31st. I was told that they had some trays at the powder coaters and it shouldn't take long. Fast forward to April 7th and I get an email telling me it getting finished up and then it will head to be powder coated. I should have it in a week or two.
I called today and it's still not done and it's at the powder coating location. Heard that one before!
I tried to explain that you can't say it's done or at the powder coating location if it's not. Especially since I was told three times that it was just about finished. Crazy..

I ordered skid plates and sliders from Bud and I had a great experience but this is just questionable.

You said you tried to explain, what did they say? From your side it sounds reasonable to be upset, but I'd outline your events in an email to them and see how they respond before posting something like this. Mistakes happen, but from their history and reputation I doubt they'd let someone fall through the cracks like that without any kind of compensation.

Bud has always treated me well along with a recent weird request and his products are A+++.

That said, he is a victim of being too popular with too few staff. It's the same infection plaguing many small businesses.

He remains one of the very few that I grade on a curve.

Well put phillyd2....

I certainly can understand the frustration.... but I'm sure airing out a *****ing session at the expense of someone's good name, especially after receiving goods with no issues prior....is, well, pretty lame.

People wake up in the morning without arms and legs....they have problems.....please try to suffer through another week or two without your tray.....good luck.

I like the products i brought from Bud. I also talked to him a few times a couple years ago and he was friendly and great.
This is now a few years later, and i am dealing with someone new.

I feel if a person tells me that the item is at the powder coating location, it should be there. I was told that three times and today it is still not done. (i was told they would ship a bare tray to me, that doesn't work as i am now back to work) This has gone on for almost a month.
I don't have a problem with good work taking longer. I do have a problem with being misled. It was a flat out lie. I travel for work and planned this out and organized my time giving myself an extra week to receive the tray. (just in case it took longer to ship to me).

I will order the tray later this year when i go home... As i said, I like the other products I brought.
I posted this because i was curious if this has happened to anyone else.

JSparky - The woman just said she was sorry and sometimes it takes longer to get the powder coating done.
I told her i understand but that isn't what you had told me the other times we talked. I didn't really get any reply other than, "I'm sorry." I just told her she shouldn't tell people the item is almost finished getting powder coated if its not even there yet. I expect people to know what is going on. I don't think that is too much to ask.

Shit happens..

I don't think I'm bashing Budbuilt. I like the products and him personally. Again, just curious if the communication gap happened to other people. And BTW, timing did matter in this case.

Yeah, it thats the worst thing that happens to me, ok. Yes, someone always has it worse. Damn it was just a question.

OK people my question has been asked and answered. I guess i'm in the wrong. It is now time to move on.

Sorry to hear about the delay.

I recently ordered a set of skids & sliders. I promptly received a confirmation email to double check the order & finalize it. They gave me a timeframe to receive them & it was accurate. Packages arrived in great shape and were packed quite well.

Hopefully they sort out your tray soon. My first experience was good so hopefully it was just a hiccup. Good luck!

I'm waiting on some sliders right now, Hopefully they come tomorrow since fedex has been known to be late for me. I have called and spoke to Bud, asked a few questions about my order and kdss installation. He seems like a good guy and was very helpful, told me to call back if I ran into problems. He was a couple days off on his shipping estimate but said they were very busy so I was almost expecting a delay. I've heard horror stories about other manufacturers and was not willing to wait for 3 or 4 months for a set of sliders so a month ain't bad

You should order from Shrockworks next time...

Realize, these guys are in business to design/build low volume, nearly custom parts, with consumer sales as an afterthought. You can't realistically compare their customer service with business' whose core business is retail sales, dealing with stock, of mass produced products.

Well, I ordered some full tread bump out sliders from Bud Built, and after reading that they would ship out with approx 2 weeks, I was pleasantly surprised hen I got a ship notice and tracking # the same afternoon. So I ordered a full set of skids that night, got my ship notice and tracking #s the next day. Received them all with a couple days on the opposite coast. I has specified in my order that I has KDSS, but my front skid just wouldn't come close to fitting. Called in , talked with Bud, within about 45 seconds he determined I was shipped the wrong front plate and would send me another right away along with a return call tag for the one I already had. 3days later I had the right plate bolted up and
The next day FedEX picked up the wrong one and sent it back. Made me laugh at other companies making you wait for moths for their product. Customer service was awesome I felt. Sorry to hear of your delay

that's a shitty response. If I am given a time frame from a business about when I can expect to have their product in my hands, whether it is a huge multinational or tiny mom and pop, I expect them to live up to that time line, and I would think most others feel the same way. Saying that Bud is a victim of his own popularity/success/whatever, is a cop-out, and telling a paying customer one thing while the opposite is the case is inexcusable, regardless of the quality of the product.

It's funny when I hear this because I am in business for myself. I am currently in a similar situation with a customer of mine. I ordered a product from a manufacturer and was told a ship date. I told the customer when I would be there to install according to this. Well guess what, I didn't get my product to install, and I'm the bad guy and he's pisssed at me when I'm at the mercy of the manufacturer. Did we ever wonder if Bud is at the mercy of the PC'er and they are just trying to cover that. I've had to in the past. And I agree, some on here expect perfection in an imperfect world. Not gonna happen keep your first world problems to yourself. And to some others, get off your high horse and deal with some of these a$$holes in the public and then see what you "expect" whether from a big company our mom and pop shop. People suck.

if there is an issue with the supply chain, then say so. do not try to make the problem go away by blaming someone else. Telling the customer that the cheque is in the mail, when in reality it is not, is a poor business practice.

I personally have parts for my truck on order right now that are a month behind the schedule I was quoted when I placed the order. The business I ordered from has been in contact with me at nearly every step, telling me exactly what the issues have been, what the solutions are, and how long I can expect the delays to take. If a one-man operation can provide that level of service in spite of a very busy schedule, I see no reason why every business cannot be at least straightforward and honest with the very customers who keep their lights on.

I don't care if it is a 2 cent washer. He paid for it, the company gave him a commitment on a delivery time, and then gave him excuses when he called to ask why it was taking so long.
As a business, if there are mitigating factors that can affect your delivery deadlines, you either have to account for those uncertainties when you tell a customer when he will have a product in hand, or don't offer a timeline at all.
Giving a definite timeline, and then failing to live up to it creates a situation where the integrity of your business will be questioned, regardless of the quality of your product, or your past performance.

You are making a total mountain out of a molehill...do you honestly feel Bud's business plan is at stake here?? Do you think it was some conspiracy?? Do you think it may be remotely possible that somewhere, somehow, there might be some miscommunication, and someone just dropped the ball?

After owning my own construction business for over 25 years, without one insurance claim, BBB complaint, or one lawsuit...I figure I deserve the right to speak a bit about customers, and customer service.

One thing over the years I've learned is no matter how good a job you do, how much profit you lose to make a job perfect, or hard you strive to put a customer first...there's always someone waiting in the wings to talk bad, malign, or slander your good name. The proof in the pudding is in the OP's title. Someone looking at it would believe somehow the OP got screwed...which is not the case. I'm sure Bud will get out his tray, and by his past dealings he knows it too, which he stated by his confidence in his prior purchases.....but no, he puts something out there negative about "customer service".... really?

Your comparison and expectations are ridiculous..... and you can bet that with or without this thread, your opinion, or my opinion, this would have been resolved...but in this tight knit little interwebs world....someone is oh so ready to trash someone's good name because their order got mixed and didn't come on the minute or hour it was supposed to....please...just stop.

my expectations are to not be out right lied to by a business that I am giving my hard earned dollars to.
did you read the first post? upon placing the order, he was told by someone at Bud's that there were trays at powder coating already, and that they were nearly ready to ship out, and he should have his item in a week. A week later, the OP was told that the trays were nearly ready to go to powder coating, and again, he should have it in a week. 4 weeks later, he is told that they are only just going to powder coating. excuses upon excuses. there may well have been a miscommunication, or confusion by someone on Bud's end, but that doesn't mean the OP isn't allowed to be pissed off that he doesn't have the product he paid for in the time frame he was quoted.

So then by your logic the OP ought to grow a set...cancel the f'in order, and go deal with someone who won't lie to him or misled him.....problem solved!

Excellent advice!
