Hey what's up guys, so I've been looking for a 3rd gen runner and I just saw one on CL. I contacted the owner and it's pretty legit, good price and really good condition. Plus a pretty new lift and super charger. Yeah a TRD super charger.
Now the only thing is, it has a weird wiring issue.
When you plug in a trailer the truck works fine, but when you disconnect it the needle for the fuel gauge dumps. The owner told me he had a fuse blow out because of the trailer he was hauling, he switched the fuse and as soon as he unplugged it the fuel gauge dumped. The wiring is all stock from factory, fuses are not blown or wrong ones and it doesn't affect anything else.
My guess was the fuel pump, but from what I'm reading on here I've seen some posts that it's a bad ground from the trailer harness. One guy even figure it out and it was right behind the tail light because I guess the tail lights and trailer harness share the same cluster, or something like that.
Anyways, this other member had the same exact issues, he replaced the ground with a bigger gauge ground and the truck worked fine. I asked my mechanic buddy and he said that it made sense, if it's a bad ground then the trailer completes the circuit or what not.
So has anyone else had this issue? Any help or advice ?
