Is it bad to have a mashed and mangled front skid?

Is it bad to have a mashed and mangled front skid? mine is basically destroyed and only has 2 bolts holding it on.... the other 2 have been shoved behind other things and i think thats what is still holding it.... is this bad? i dont want to spend a crap ton of money on bud built skids cause its just a 2wd that i take mudding with my friends every now and then.

Maybe you could find a used one from someone that replaced theirs with budbuilts.

It's not bad...in fact it's good. Otherwise your transmission and differential would be mashed and mangled.

Seriously if this thing is just barely on, you'd better do something right away. Maybe it's unlikely, but what happened if this thing somehow came up. I'm not thinking you're getting it caught under the car while driving is going to be too great. Skid's aren't even that expensive are they?

budd builts are..... but its not hanging by a thread but its just bad... especially looking at it... it looks like a huge dent in the center and then bent metal at point on corners ahha

Bud Builts are only like $250. That's not too bad.

yea i just cant wrap around my head paying 250 for a piece of metal to protect my ""2WD"" 4runner.... im just going to look for a used or totaled 4runner with one that is still good

I understand, but if you realized what would happen if that "piece of metal" wasn't there you'd understand that $250 is a good deal. Lol.

Not quite, $725 for the skids, plus $179 for powder coating, plus quite a bit for shipping....

My stock skids are trashed, it just happens. Make sure they stay on and keep your eye out for some used stock skids. I am already on my 2nd set...

$725 for a front skid? I think your talking about all of the skids. You don't have to paint them either.

That is for the 4 piece kit, you are right. I would replace at least the front two though (which are $290 and $250) since if you replace just the front one it does not line up to the stock skids well and could pretty easily get hung up on things.

Ya, but it doesn't cover much. Blair is right. You need the second skid behind it to get the same covereage as the OEM one. They are pretty dam pricey, but likely not much more (if at all) than new OEM ones from a dealer.

At least you mangled the skid and not what is under it. Try banging it back into shape and replacing the missing bolts maybe.

An excellent replacemnt would have been the Downey front skid. Same coverage as OEM, way stronger and better looking, used to be $200 before Downey disapeared. Try finding one used maybe?
