hey all, long time reader..short time poster. I've tried finding my answer through the search button and cardomain.com but couldnt come up with anything. Maybe someone out there can be so kind to help me figure this out. So i go to the dealership today to do an alignment and also get them to check up on this problem with the "passenger airbag" light not illuminating properly in the centre consol. Now this small detail really bugs me so i wanna solve it asap. Only the word "airbag" lights up but the word "passenger" doesnt when i turn on my gauges (driving at night). I coulda swore the passenger portion lit up when i first got it. Could i just be trippin'? If the passenger is not supposed to light up, then why is the lettering white? As all the other white letters within my gauges and instrument clusters all light up. I have an '05 V6 (black) sport ed. runner btw (live in vancouver, canada). I know that the lettering of the "airbag" is not white in '03's (maybe '04's too?) so i guess i need somebody with an '05 to help me out here...pics would DEFINITELY be appreciated...my dealer says its normal..is it?

I agree it's strange, but it does appear to be normal.
Only the word "AIRBAG" lights up on mine. The word "PASSENGER" above it does not.

Well, doesn't the PASSENGER light go on when the passenger front seat is occupied?? Otherwise, it is OFF.

I'm pretty sure the airbag light is off unless there is someone in the passenger seat then the orange passenger light is on. If I remember correctly my airbag light blinks when I have weight in the seat, such as my backpack, but not enough weight for the computer to "think" it is a person. I'll verify when I go out for lunch today.

yeah i thought the passenger light would illuminate once there was a passenger present but all that happens is the "on" beneath the "airbag" lights up, and if i put my backpack on the passenger seat the "off" lights up due to improper weight. IMO i think its kinda stupid the passenger part doesnt illuminate, as it kinda confuses me as to whether the passenger part is functionig properly....

thx for the replies, but can anyone else out there verify this for me? Would save me a trip to my dealership to get it fixed if it wasnt a problem to begin with

Just checked mine and only the "on" light comes on. Even with the headlights on, everything lights up but the word passenger.

thx for all the replies once again..so i wound up going to the deapership today just to double check and sat in a 2006 limited runner and the same thing happened. The service manager sat in the driver seat, me in the shotgun..he turned on the gauges on and no passenger light on but the "on" beneath the airbag did illuminate...the seatbelt reminder was blinking too...so there you have it...the passenger light DOESNT light up at all! even once the seatbelt was locked in..weird if u ask me..thanks for the post of your pick mark86..it would be nice if you tried taking that pic WITH a passenger in shotgun and see if you would get the same results...should be tho..cheers guys

I had to check this out yesterday just to make sure. My 05 SE says "Passenger Airbag" and then the little ON light comes on when there is a passenger. The "Passenger Airbag" text doesn't appear to even be a light and resembles the text on say the radio. I noticed in the pic above the word "Airbag" is lit but not Passenger...that's odd...

Nevermind, I just checked at night with my lights on and only the "Airbag" text lights up. With someone in the passenger seat the ON light also goes on but the "Passenger" light doesn't. Weird...
