When I start my 4R I hear a sharp grind sound. Think of when the car is on and you forget its on and you turn the key. Anyone else experience this?
Is it the starter or the ignition???

So are those batt/starter checkers the employees at Autozone use not to be trusted? The guys hooked it up and said it wasn't the starter. Mystery?

The noise would be caused by the starter pinion gear not engaging properly with the ring gear. How can a AZ tester check for that?
I guess it could also be the battery, if it was marginal. I could see an instance where the pinion might not fully engage.
First thing to check, make sure the mounting bolts are good and tight.
