Is it true? V8 4runner no longer available?

I can't find a V8 4x4 Limited 4runner anywhere in CA! Online, I did the Configure My 4Runner on toyota.com and the V8 doesn't even show up as an option.

Has Toyota discontinued the V8 4runner?
Does that make our V8's any more valuable :P

They took away the V8 option on the 4runner in CA. When I was shopping for mine, I noticed the lack of availability for the air suspension in my area. A call to 5 major dealers in the Los Angeles area led to no results of a V8 4x4. What gives!

Hmm, looks like they removed it from my zip code as well. I'm sure I can find some on local lots still but officially they don't offer it anymore for my area.

Maybe the factory is phasing out the 4.7 V8 and retuning their tools to make the upcoming 4.6 V8??

The V8 has been removed from a lot of areas, including Massachusetts. Not sure if they are phasing out the V8 for a newer engine, but I get the impression they are moving away from the V8 4Runner in favor of more fuel efficient models. Supposedly there is a 4-cylinder option in the works which makes more sense for going green. People who want the V8 for towing will be pushed towards the Sequoia or Tundra.

I wonder if the new 4.6 Toyota engine will have a timing chain....

Im glad I got my V8 when I did, it's sooo smooth!

That is what i don't get...people these days are just not buying cars...ANY cars, not just big V8s. Fuel prices these days are very reasonable...so, i don't get why Toyota would cut down on V8 production. They need to cut down on 4runner production as a whole.

My local salesman (good honest guy...rare!) told me just yesterday that they are having trouble moving Corollas and Camrys, not just the big SUVs and trucks. People are simply not buying anything.

I don't think it really has to do with what is or isn't selling, it's about aligning company resources for future profits. If they are thinking of putting a 4-cyl in the 4Runner, it would not make sense to have three engine choices especially considering the weight difference. Unfortunately if they are considering replacing the fully-boxed frame with a unibody type design, the V8 doesn't make much sense. If you reduce the weight by topping this out with a V6 you save 200+ pounds. If you further reduce the weight by removing the steel frame and moving to a unibody design, you are saving 300+ lbs. Some aluminum panels, composite here and there, and the 4Runner could potentially shave 1000 lbs from it's heaviest design to date. I don't have any inside knowledge, but I know most companies, auto manufacturing for one, are being pushed to go green, and getting tax incentives for doing so. Reducing the weight, emissions, and increasing fuel economy have a way of also lining the pockets of the board and the investors.

I wouldn't be surprised to learn the website is out of date or just wrong.

Toyota has changed production schedules at all it's factories, cut temporary employees etc.

There are thousands of cars and trucks at US ports that are not sold.

Why would one be looking at the corp site when there is a glut of inventory already here.

OSX - Even if they don't have one, they can get one from the port or from another dealer. Maybe they didn't include any in their last allotment.

My local dealers order 1 LTD for every 10 SR-5 or Sport. 100 miles south, they have the reverse. Go figure.
