Whats up all-
I'm looking to buy my first car and have been looking into getting a 1st gen 4runner. I've always been into 4 wheeling on the beach and stuff but in my dads jeep and I've always admired the look of the first generation 4runners.
After months of searching locally I've finally found something that seems decent but I want everyones advice before I commit to buying it.
Its a 1986 red 4runner originally from florida. Minimal rust on the frame, some rust spots around the wheel wells. Automatic trans (dont know how to drive/ couldnt find a stick shift) with the 22re. 170k. Interior is pretty clean, and the back window works. All of the numbers under the hood are still in tact.
The truck runs fine but has the transmission solenoid issue- start it up and put it in drive and it starts out in 3rd gear, but start it and put it into low, then 2, then drive, it shifts fine.
The guy wants 2100 for it, but I offered 2500 if he could get it to the running condition that I would want it to be in. I'll be taking this truck to upstate NY for school for my last semester of college.
Is 2500 too much? Granted, I would only be paying that if he can fix the transmission issue, but then what are the chances anything else might come up? I do know how reliable these trucks are.....
