Is modding worth it for a 98% city driver?

99% to 99.5% of the time mine is a pavement princess. when i do go places, its usually just to get to fishing spots that are well traveled dirt roads. since i take trips to MoA and to georgia to visit mom, i wont be doing any mechanical mods. i prefer staying as close to OEM specs as possible since i follow the K.I.S.S. method.

the only safe mods i have done are the LED lights, floor mats, dash cam and that will probably be the extent of my mods or other subtle cosmetics.

i would love to do some mechanical mods, but in the end i prefer the gas mileage, spending money on other vices (computer mods are my vice).

but to each their own :)

Irregardless and intensive purposes in the same sentence - LMFAO. It's almost as bad as watching an episode of Honey Boo Boo.
I'm a technical writer so it's pretty easy to put something together that would grate on my nerves.

Anyhow, here's the sort of thing you can do with a completely bone stock 4Runner. They're a lot more capable in stock configuration than most people realize.

So, what you are saying is you would just assume go with a stock config than modified?

Back in Febuary, I went to the libary to study up on my nucular physics.

So you took it over Imogene? That's pretty good with that long of a wheelbase!

Yep, also where I lost the tire. Right over the top heading to Ouray I cut a sidewall and changed it in the rain @ around 13,000ft and I gasp for air the whole time....

I've taken mine up to Bridal Veil Falls, and I didn't like backing up to do the switch backs, but then I'm pretty chicken with my daily driver. I'm sure it's much more capable than I care to test.

Just finished a lift using height adjustable bilstein 5100 shocks and spacers, and not only does the truck look alot nicer, but the ride quality is much better. Significantly less nose dive when braking, and far less "rock and roll" when crossing diagonally over driveway aprons, speedbumps, etc. feels more stable in the corners too.

Because this was a 'two birds with one stone' mod, I feel the $500 or so was well spent. I've been very happy with the way it turned out. I should also note that while I would've loved to do more lift and bigger tires, I wasn't willing to sacrifice fuel economy, as this is my daily driver. With the stock tires, there's been no measurable change in fuel economy, and as I mentioned, handling actually improved noticeably. Its actually a better daily driver now.

Anyways, thats the brakes, ect ect.

Thanks for the input. I just ordered $10K in mods....kidding.

I will probably do something small for now: tires or flame pin stripes or fuzzy dice, not sure.

Mine is 4x4, trail premium, powered by dark magics, devour-er of souls, etc.

I was thinking of black wheels too, but I'm not sure how it's going to look with the magnetic gray paint.

Looked at your pics...

Still waiting for my 5100s to come in, they went backordered like the day I tried to get them :(

I'm not spacing the rear, been waffling on the 0.85 or the 1.5 for the front. I like the way your 1.5 looks!

Where did you get the red interior LED lights? I go out with my telescope a lot and need to use only red lights.

superbriteleds I think it was? I too hate destroying my night vision when I open a cardoor.

perhaps this image will help as well. the red line is drawn between wheel centers to better demonstrate what is/isn't level... also worth noting, there is no 1.5" setting on the bilsteins. 0, .85, 1.75, and 2.5
