I was thinking the other day as I put my "06" 4runner in 4x4 mode "Hay my old "98" Jeep Grand Cheorkee's (select-Track) 4wd system was like this??)
Someone correct me if im wrong ?? but with my 4runner you have a 4x full time mode "Diff unlocked mode" and in this mode you can even drive on dry pavement. And you have a Diff locked mode more for deep mud or snow. "as a matter of fact I had to lock the Diff today to get up my driveway 14 plus of the white stuff here in western MA.
My old Jeep worked the same way you had a so called "Part time" and a "Full time" 4x4 mode on the optional "Select-Track" 4x4 system. Both by the way have open front and rear diffs.
Are they somewhat the same ?? that is other than the runner's electronics like Trac-control and the like.
