I know this has been post few times, but I just want to make sure that my car is capable for towing 5300lb trailer for 800 miles trip? I have a 2000 v6 limited with auto transmission. If so, what do I need to do or use to make this trip more safe? any advice will be grateful.

5000lbs is the max and going over a little bit shouldn't hurt but it would hurt alot less if you had a tranny cooler.

Does your trailer have brakes?

Many state laws require brakes on any trailers over 2000lbs.

I am going to rent a trailer from uhaul. I still think let auto transports company to do the job, but just want to have more options. Just want to know is it worth to towing my car by my self? the cost for auto transport company is around $600. what may happen if I dont have tranny cooler? by the way, thanks for the advices.

brakes are key. you need a trailer with brakes, tranny cooler will keep your trans from overheating. especially since you might have to turn overdrive off to drive the trailer across that way.

Becasue your proposed rental trailer has hydrualic surge brakes you won't need any special wiring or a brake controller.
Where will you be driving?
Hydraulic brakes operate well in flat areas or uphill situations...but are horrible in downhill situations, if they're not set up well.
If you have any serious ammount of declines on your route I'd advise against that trailer....

Every trailer I have rented from Uhaul was a piece of $hit. Even their trucks are crap. The surge brakes are a joke. When the trailer pushes against the tongue they are supposed to activate. Most trailers they don't work at all and on others they are too sensitive and the lever to disconnect them is usually rusted in place or hammered down. On the ones that worked too well it can be scary. One time they were way too touchy and the brakes started activating on the highway causing the trailer to buck back and forth yanking me back and forth. And you can't back up the ones u can't deactivate. One u push the trailer the trailer locks. Sorry soo long but always had bad luck with Uhaul. I just use Penske or Ryder now and there are several trailer shops around here that make, sell, and rent trailers.
