Is the 4.7L SC no more?

It's time to replace my 2000 SC 4Runner, is it true that the 4.7L SC is discontinued or is it just on hold?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There will be an '05 Runner with the V8 VVti and factory installed S/C to compete with the Porsche, et al.

S/C adds 118hp to the V8 engine.

Info in recent Four Wheeler magazine.

Price is $48K. :bugeye:
 
So it sounds like basically with the new engine en route, they're not going to even bother offering the superchargers for the old 4.7L engines??

Dammit, I don't want to trade in my 4Runner, it barely has 16k miles on it!!!

Those bastards HAD to add VVTi didn't they?


47k isn't that bad for a supercharged 4WD honking beast like that. . .i guess. . .

Sac, I read that article. It was all screwed up. 0-60 7.6 seconds ??? (I can do that with my stock sport) I think they ment 5.6 seconds, also it did not talk about 2005, it said it was on sale now and it did not mention the VVti which is not out yet so that engine could not have it. Also the TQ #'s they showed were way to low. I felt like the article was a waste of time with all of the obvious mistakes. You think they have anyone proof read these publications???

Also $48K :confused: You can add the TRD SC to any 4th generation 4runner installed for less than $6K so why $48K??? I paid $33K for my 4runner and if I added the TRD SC that would bring it to $39K what do you get for the extra $9K :confused:
 
the $48K is for a loaded limited with all the extras.

$44k for a loaded limted 4x4 with nav, and all the extras.

a conservative $4k for the sc


$48k is not that far off.


Probably less for the 4x2. I paid $29k for my 4x2, and $3700 for my sc.
 
They should just offer the TRD SC with the warranty. I hate it when they load up a vehicle and you have to buy all of the worthless crap to get what you want. JMHO
 
Wow, this is disappointing. I was really looking forward to buying my V8 Runner and slapping an SC on it. Now i've got to decide how to pursue this. Not sure if I want to wait until Toyota decides to release their own model, who knows how long that will be.

I am starting to call TRD monthly to ask about the 4.7 SC. On my last call, I was told that Toyota wil again offer the SC for the 4.7. It is just that they don't have the replacement ECU yet. They told me that it was OK to keep bugging them about it. So, let's all call from time to time.

I, like a lot of people, are chomping at the bit to get a 4.7 SC. I keep calling and get told to call back in a month. That's what I'm doing...calling monthly.
 
I want one too! But I can't really afford to drop 4k on it all, so maybe it's a good thing I can't get one... My not having willpower and all that...
 
I wrote to TRD today, asking about the possibility of a supercharger for the new V8 engines in the 2005 4Runner:

"Hi there,

Can you tell me if TRD plans on re-introducing the supercharger for
the current/new generation 4Runner? I am ready to purchase a new 2005
4Runner (VVTi V8) and I'm hinging my decision on whether the
supercharger will be available for the new V8 at some point in the
near future.

And help you can provide is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!"


Their reply:

"Unfortunately TRD has no plans to offer a supercharger for the new VVT-I 2UZFE

If I really want a supercharged V8 4Runner, does this mean I should just get a 2004 and hope I can find a SC somewhere?

This is really disappointing... or maybe Toyota will offer the SC directly?
