I've done my part to try to help -- I've planted 5 trees in my yard in the last year and a half.... Three of them are oak trees that should get quite large. I already have three big mature oak trees in the yard in addition to those. I think some of the new housing builders have a lot to do with it; around here they tend to just strip LARGE chunks of land completely bare. Most of these parcels of land have old, mature oak trees. It takes 50-100 years for them to get to the size of the ones that they are bulldozing. It's sickening how they do that, then when they are finished building the houses, they plant these little 15-gallon-sized trees, maybe one or two of them per house and call it a day.
