Is the LC better than the 4Runner for Offroad?

I would think the new 4runner TE with the locking rear diff/ATRAC/Crawl control will be more capable than the Land Cruiser. Toyota admitted that the FJ was more capable than the LC, and the new 4runner is going one step farther than the FJ.

With the 2010 4runner and what it has to offer, i think that the 2010 4runner TE is the top dog in off-road capability among the Toyota lineup. For some reason, Toyota is not equipping the Land Cruiser appropriately for off-road duty.

yes, anyone can wheel a SWB (short wheel base) its the LWB that seperate the men from the bltches.

Really depends on the LC and the type of the off roading. Some LC's are far larger than the 4Runner, which can be a huge disadvantage on the trails.
I know I have considered replaced my truck with an LC 80, but I just cant get rid of all the comforts of my 4runner.... For now at least....

So you actually like a longer wheelbase on the trail? There must not be many tight turns where you wheel... A wheelbase of about 105" works very well around here...

no i like SWB, but if you can wheel a LWB than a SWB is a walk in the park. There are many sharp curves on the trails and public roads here.

For some reason, Toyota is not equipping the Land Cruiser appropriately for off-road duty.
They took a turn with the LC somewhere in the late 90's where it turned into an luxury vehicle...I still see newer model LC's on the beach! Who would drop 70k on a truck to take it on the beach? Crazy talk.

Don't forget the safety advantages of the 4runner too...side curtain airbags (if equipped), VSC, ATRAC, and actual crumple zones!

The FZJ80 is considered more capable compared to the same years of 4 Runners for a few reasons.
1. Solid axle design capable of more articulation and more forced traction as the one side lifts it drives the other side down. (Why people do SAS conversions)
2. Lockers front, rear and middle were offered.
The wheel base really isnt that different. LC 112" T4R 105.3" at least not big enough to make a huge difference. However Turning radius is LC 40.4 T4R 37.4 , I know my98 xcab Taco was wb-121" and turning of 43'

I had a '95 FJ80 with the factory locking front, center, and rear diffs. I added some OME springs, ARB Bullbar and a Warn winch. Along with running 295/75R16 BFG A/T's on the oem wheels.
As long as it fit on the trail, it was more capable than the '97 4Runner with 5speed, V6, rear diff lock, I bought two years later.
I owned them simultaneously for five years, then I sold the Landcruiser. I still have the 4Runner.
I sold the 'Cruiser simply because the driving position was more cramped than the 4Runner.

You still go out there? Take the Runner? I'm literally 5 minutes from Smith's Point. I'm there EVERY weekend between mid-May and mid-September. I'm sure you've seen my truck...

What I want to know is what beaches you and Liny are able to drive on??! Being from Cali, I dont know of any beaches I can remember that was ok to drive on the beach?? And I didnt see any in Ocean City or Rehoboth Beach this summer either.

It's just how we roll on the east coast. :flipoff: hahaha
There's alot of fishing on our beaches, especially in the inlets, and the only access to the inlet is the beach. It's used by alot of people for day-tripping and camping too. In the northeast the sand is pretty deep, and really only accessable to a 4WD truck, but down in Florida, the sand is really tight and shallow, and basically ANY car can drive on. My buddy made it in his Tein-springed Scion tC that scrapes pebbles down in Daytona.
Yes, Ive since sold the RRS and I go out there almost every weekend with 4Runner, wife and son. I am always looking out for other runners Im sure ive seen you out there but can say for sure that I remember seeing it.
