Is the Treo 700p Bluetooth Compatible with 2006 Navi?

Does anyone with factory navi on a 2006 T4R use a Treo 700p via bluetooth? I checked the compatibility on Palm's website and they say that it doesn't work with the Toyota nav systems.

I currently have a Treo 650 and it works well for making calls via the bluetooth connection; however, I haven't been able to upload my phonebook into the navi. Has anyone figured out how to do this? When I send contacts to the navi, only 4 or 5 out of 300 or so get sent. My contacts on the phone are grouped into about 8 categories... could this be the problem?

I would be interested to hear from anyone who is using a Treo 700p and the factory navi, or from anyone who knows how to upload contacts from the Treo 650 into the navi.

I have an 06 T4R w/ factory nav and also the Treo 700p. Bluetooth connection was established with no problem and I was able to transfer all of my contacts into the nav following the toyota manual. On the 700p when in the contacts section I think I just selected "All" instead of one of my 8 different folders and it was a quick sync.

My only real issue with it is that my microphone seems rather muffled and quiet to my callers unless I am up very close to the mic. Does anyone have a solution or mod for this? How well does your 650 work? The other weird thing it does is that when a call comes in it displays on the nav screen the last call that came in rather than the new one. Overall I was just happy that it connected up after not seeing on the compatibility list!

I now have bought the Treo 700p and I am able to connect via bluetooth, but I am having the same issues that Promed mentioned.

The 700p works as well as the Treo 650 in terms of call connectivity and clarity, but the caller ID is showing the number of the previous caller (caller ID worked when using the 650). The signal strength indicator on the Nav works, but the battery strength meter does not.

Also, I am still unable to upload my contacts to the Navi (this was also the case with the 650).

Promed: do you have categories other than all? I think I have about 8 categories (personal, business, family, etc.). I don't care if they are organized like that in the Navi... I just would like to get them in there. Also, do you use Microsoft Outlook to manage your contacts, or Palm Desktop? I use Outlook to manage my contacts and calendar and use the Palm software only for syncing.

If anyone else can weigh in, it would also be much appreciated.

I have around 14-15 categories for my phone numbers and they are managed in Palm. I can deal with the other stuff, just wish my roof mounted microphone was a little louder. Some of my callers have trouble hearing me unless I am up closer to it.

Do you think my problem may be that I use Outlook rather than the Palm Desktop? On that note, have you ever used Outlook as a contact manager and if so, how does it compare with the Palm Desktop?

I have no idea since I have been using Palm to manage my contacts for the last 7 years and have never had them in Outlook. If you followed the steps listed in the nav manual and it still didn't work, that is only difference I can think of.

I use Outlook to manage my contacts for my Treo650. I send each category over individually over to the nav. However, if I recall the nav only has two slots for each name/entry. Also, it only puts the first number on each contact in slot #1 and the second in #2. On my Treo, 'work' is the first field that comes up and mobile is the third, so if a particular contact has multiple numbers, it doesn't transfer properly.

With nav locking me out when I'm moving, it's a lot easier to dial out of the Treo and put frequently dialed numbers in the nav's speed dial. Caller ID for me for the most part doesn't work. Maybe it's because I have my number on permanent blocking and I prepend a lot of my entries with *82, so if it's not a direct match for nav, it doesn't show. I haven't seen it show the previous incoming call number when it does work.

I believe the problem lies in Bluetooth, because it's a completely open standard, each manufacturer of Bluetooth devices picks and chooses how they want to implement it. It's the same reason why my Sony-Ericsson headset is leaps and bounds better than my Motorola. The Moto headset is the biggest pile I've ever seen and used, further adds to why I hate Moto with a passion.
