Is there a reason to keep the plastic engine cover on my v6?

If the cover is not necessary for proper airflow, cooling, and whatever, then I'd like to remove it so that I can lovingly gaze at my 1GR-FE and keep it nice and clean without that stupid plastic lid trapping dust on top of the engine.

I doubt there's any real reason to keep it on there, other than aesthetics for non-car people.

I don't have it on the Tacoma or the 4runner. Took them off last time I did spark plugs and left it off.

I've always removed the engine cover on my vehicles. They might be there to quiet a little bit of noise but it's just one more thing to remove when you need to do work.
