I checked the tongue receiver for lots of marks/scratches/rust. Mine looked BRAND new. My buddies was clearly used a good bit, same mileage. That's the only way I know short of asking previous owners.

Sure, if there's no hitch, it probably didnt tow much. Honestly, 4runners arent "haulers". T4R owners might tow a TT or race car to the track occasionally but not many tow extensively. I tow my dirt bikes and boats(21-25ft) a lot during summer but not more than 60 miles in the day. Also, check if the rear springs sags without a load.
