I just bought a 2001 SR5 sport 4 Runner and want to know where I can buy a visor for the driver's side that has a mirro in it? Thanks

My 04 has mirrors, but how could toyota forget to put vanity lights on the mirrors. I can live looking rugged and disshovelled, but dates usually use that feature more than any other part of a car...

You should have sprung for Limited. They light up when the cover is slid back over them. In fact, it was all the little details in the 03 Limited that the Sport and SR5 didn't have that convinced me to spend the extra money. I figured I would have to live with my decision for eight years, better make one that I was happy with.
I still wish the cruise control was on the steering wheel though....

Toolman,

I have the lighted mirrors on my '03 sport.

Your last line leads me to a question, what is the blank for on the other side of the wheel opposite of the radio controls? For some reason I though that is where the cruise controls were on the limiteds, apparently not.

Nope, no controls at all..

I'm suprised you have them. They are listed as standard on the Limited , and not listed as optional for either the SR5 or Sport on Toyota's website

http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/2004/4runner/models.html

The blank area on the right side of the wheel.... Seems strange at first, but I think Toyota is holding out on upgrades for each model year. Just like the 03's have a spot in the liftgate fascia for the backup camera, but is wasn't released until the 04's. Also, how about all the buttons that are missing from the center armrest? Mine is missing two. One is for rear air suspension (I don't have that, I have a V6) but what would the other be for? I also have a button blank on the left side of the console, next to the center diff lock. What will that be for?
So I think eventually the cruise control will migrate to the steering wheel. Toyota is just holding out for some small feature for each model year to keep people coming back and looking at the truck. If it stayed exactly the same for each year (let's say 5 years for the 4th gen), sales would fall off considerably. Adding little features each year keeps people coming back.

I have an '03 and my cruise controls are on a small arm on the right side of the steering column. I had thought that's where they were on all models?

As for the blanks in the center divider, the two you're talking about are used for the seat warmers on the limited. As for the extras behind the left side of the steering wheel....well car makers always leave extra for those of us who like to mod and add our own functions to those switches. For instance, I bought a painless performance switch to replace one of the blanks that would control my off-roading lights. I think it's less of a money-making scheme, and more of a consideration for those who might upgrade in some cases. As for the blanks that cover features that, for instance, only come on the limited (seat warmers)--well let's just say it's MUCH less expensive to manufacture switch blanks for a penny apiece than it is to redesign the entire center section.

I believe that's where they are on all Toyota models I've seen.

I thought the Limited actually has 5 switches on the console, the SR5 and Sport have 3. The extra two are for the seat heaters. Correct?

The reason some Sports and SR5's have the lighted vanity mirrors is because Toyota packaged it with the side airbags. Seems like a strange combination, but that's how they did it. Probably has something to do with wiring to the head curtain airbags.

The switches on the Limited are for 2 seat heaters, 2 different controls for the air suspension and one for the DAC. The SR5/Sports don't get the two seat heaters or a blank for them.

I don't have side air bags and I still have the lighted vanity mirrors.

The two blanks in the center are for the air suspension (as previosly mentioned). One is to turn it on and the other is to adjust it.

I didn't know there were 2 controls for air suspension, I always thought there was just one. That's why I have two blank spots on the console, I didn't want the air suspension. Yes, I have heated seats, I also didn't realize that all trucks had those cutouts for them regardless of trim. And , yes, all of the cruise features are on the poorly thought out stalk for all models. I wish they just put them into the right side of the steering wheel.

Goose, I was talking about the lighted vanity mirrors in the Sport version when I said I was suprised he had them.

I also have this.

Now that's interesting! Toyota seems to be very inconsistent with the features they put in the 4Runner. Some Sports have leather shift knobs, others have silver shift knobs. Some 03 SR5's have telescoping wheels, some don't. Guess we can add lighted vanity mirrors to that list.

I remember reading that there was a TSB for 4 runners without mirrors that the dealer would install visors with mirrors if the vehile lacked them.

I dont remeber where I read this, I could be mistaken. Anyone hear of anything like this?
