Have the white bright lights like that on the lexus model? Also was thinking about white gauges. Is there anything out for the 4rth gen 4runner?

I am also interested in changing the backlit 'amber' color across the board in my 4runner to a different color, peferably a nice blue, but I wouldn't mind white, or anything besides amber

I've heard it could a very expensive undertaking because there are soe many lights to replace, cupholders, locking/window buttons, gauges, mpg/temperatute screen, etc. etc.,

I actually like the red but wish they made the red dots on the fuel gage and temp gage like the speedo and tach

There's prob some way to remove the dash so you can change the bulb colors. All you need is the toyota service manual and just find out how to remove the dash and it should be pretty simple to change the bulbs!

Everything that you ever want to do to your 4runner will always be in the service manual!!!

I did this (basically) to my old truck, I just pulled out the gauge cluster and replaced the old white bulbs (which were behind a screen that made them an amber/orage color) with red ones - the red made the gauges much much cooler! It wasn't hard, cost about $5.

Keep in mind the 4th gen 4runner uses LEDs and not light bulbs. From the stuff I've read it sounds like they might even be surface mounted (soldered to a circuit board) LEDs.

Changing them might not be a simple process. (Not a difficult one, but not as simple as changing a light bulb.)

maybe i'll just concentrate on the bulbs i can easily replace inside.

Surface mounted LED's..tough to replace

If they are surface mounted, and not discrete LED's with leads, those suckers are a biatch to rework. You must use a hot air flow resolder/rework station that has a very finite controlled heat tip.

Resoldering a lead type component can be a nightmare when there are only solder pads on a surface mount board and no lead through holes for a new component. I usually drill my ownholes using a very very small diamond drill bit, expensive small drill chuck, and an adjustable holding station for the board with a scope to see what I'm drilling.

I have done PCB repair and rework. Surface mount is cool as hell for the space it saves, but it's really a disposable board unless it costs thousands to replace.

But now I'm curious if they're discrete or surface mount. Anyone?

I think I read that discussion at yotatech also. IIRC, it was quite involved to get them 'all' replaced. The lights inside the head unit are likely the biggest issue though I think somebody here did that too.

Nothing like voiding your entire electrical warranty (as if mine isn't already voided anyhow).
