Is there double DIN dash kit with TWO open slots?

05 SE w/o JBL 10speaker system.

I didn't come up with anything during a search - all I've seen is the kit that houses a 1 Din unit with a pocket:

But I want to put two units in the Double Din opening, so I'm looking for a dash kit/trim kit that would allow for two units to be installed in there, seamlessly.

Is there anything out there? Thanks.

to.... put 2 separate single DIN units in there...

I plan on mounting a head unit and the MP3 control unit. Each is a single DIN. I've seen it in other cars before, just wondering if they make one for the late model 4r.
 
I looked for one for a 3rd gen at one time with no such luck. I ended up modifying the factory brackets and making my own kit out of what was already there. It looks good, but with the HU at the top of the dash in the 4th gens I'd say any imperfection would be alot more noticeable.

Yeah, all those gaps around the edges makes me think that I'm going to have to make a faceplate (trim kit) myself. Someone else in here fabricated one to fit around his Nav unit: I believe he made it with either wood or fiberglass, painted it, and it looks great.

I "think" the factory brackets can be used to mount 2 single DIN units, but there is significant gaps around the edges of the units after installation of the console cover. Ugh...
 
nope sorry! the opening on the 4g 4R is not a true double din.if it was you would be able to fit 2 HU in the opening. its about 1/2 inch to short. you would have to get a custom ac/radio trim done

I hate the answer though. Stupid stupid stupid, I hate custom size HU's.

So a double din size aftermarket unit won't fit in there either then? Shux.

Hmm. I was under the impression that the double DIN aftermarket units would fit in there. People are talking about the Pioneer AVIC-D1 or the Kenwood DDX7015 Thread on T-4R here.

So are you sure it's not a double-DIN size? Or are the double-DIN HUs always a little smaller?
 
Can anyone say that the dash slot in a 4th gen can fit two single din radios -with a custom bracket but no modding of the dash facia?
 
I tried to install my single DIN empeg mp3 player and my alpine head unit into the dash and they would not fit together. It was a few centimeters too short. I just ordered an Eclipse AVN 5435 double-din navigation head unit and I'm hoping that it will fit. It's made by Fujitsu Ten, the same people that make the stock Toyota Nav units (I believe). I'll let you know next week if it does...
 
What do you mean "it was a few centimeters too short"? DO you mean that they both fit but there was a gap - or that they would not fit in the factory opening?

there is no kit out there but you can custom cut the pocket out of the single kit it just takes some time

Is that Uniden scanner DIN sized? Did you use the Scoche adapter and just mod it?

I just received the Metra kit... looks about the same as that Crutchfield one... did you use a dremel to open that pocket up (increase the height of the opening)? Looks like that bottom unit might be at an angle facing up a bit? More details please, there's probably alot of people interested in a 2-single DIN clean install, thanks!!!
 
i'm definitly interested if it is possible to modify the metra installation kit to accomodate a double din headunit. i'm thinking of buying the new eclipse avn5435 which is double din.

I was looking at the avn5435 but my buddy at a car audio store said that eclipse is coming out with a second model for this year, i think a 5495. From what I remember, it has a hard drive instead of just the two drives. What this means is that you don't have to have the navigation DVD in all the time... it can be stored on the HD freeing up the DVD slot. Also, you can store your audio on the HD. It's freaken expensive though. My friend said the buddy price installed & out the door was $2750. The 5435 is probably $500 less. Now I'm trying to decided if I want to spend that much or go with the stock toyota nav from oemvalue.com for $1700 w/o install.

Can anybody tell me which way to go. Is it worth $1000??? I can probably install it myself if I have to or take the toyota nav to my buddy's place to get installed for cheap. Is the stock toyota nav that good or comparible to the eclipse? ...which i hear is the best double-din nav on the market right now.

Also, maybe I'm confused, but I thought I'd just be able to steal the brackets of my stock HU and use them to ISO mount onto the eclipse 2-din HU. Is a custom kit really necessary? Random questions, and off the topic moving away from 2-slot double-din kits but anybody got some answers?
