Hi all, I am a newbie. I previously owned an 02 SR5. It had 155k on it and i loved it. I'm now looking at an 06 SR5 with the 3rd row. It has 143xxx miles, 2 POs, 1st owner was a 36k lease, 2nd owner has had it since and has very thorough maintenance history on carfax (regular oil changes, frequent tire rotations, driveshaft serviced at 3 different times?, new tires at 138k miles, spark plugs replaced at 60k and 117k, air filters replaced at various times, front and rear brakes at 104k). All maintenance on second owner was done at dealership where it is for sale. I really want the third row seats as I have 3, 5, & 6 year old children and throwing one or two in the way back will help avoid the "stop touching your brother/sister" directives that are a constant now. It was originally listed at $15500 in April but is now at $12437. I have a trade in that I am about $1000 upside down on, but am willing to eat it expecting to keep this for at least 100k miles. I would love to be posting a mileage of 400k some years on down the road.
It will be 60% country roads and 40% city driven with 3-4 camping trips with some fire roads and a little bit of mudding involved each year. No rock crawling. About 1200 miles a month.
I know the V6 has the timing chain and in all likelihood will never need to be replaced. Barring some accident, what other costly repairs might I see in the next 100k? What else should I look for? On the vehicle? Body is completely free of rust. Any thoughts/advise will be greatly appreciated.
My previous 4runner started shooting spark plugs out the engine at 155k so I do have some hesitation. My assumption is the person who changed them didn't tighten them properly and with the aluminum engine, the rattled enough to break the threads. Has anyone ever had this happen?
